Lucked out here. Windy with a lot of lightning, some small limbs down, but no real issues in the immediate area.

They're saying it's the worst in 40 years.

Yep, as Keith said...for sure.

Yeah, but not only THAT Chad, but can you imagine being a black man down there in the south 40 years ago when those things hit 'em???!!!

Ya see, I'm thinkin' they might've still had separate Tornado shelters down there, and the ones for the BLACK folks might not have been quite as well built as those for the WHITE folks!!!

(...sorry if I've brought up a little of our American history here which some people might like to forget!!!!)

That was kind of my point. I imagine that they reported it being bad as it related to ..................those not affected by ugly ole Jim Crow. So the reality is that it was likely much worse.

Oh! Then I didn't catch your reference there.

(...and that might be 'cause you're a little more subtle than I am...well, maybe not USUALLY, but maybe in THIS case anyway!!!)

So John, then I take it this is YOUR "subtle way" of sayin' I probably didn't GROSSLY cross any line of acceptable behavior around here with the above, EH?!

Last September I stopped at the Boss Hog Bar-B-Que in Reform Alabama for some ribs. Just got done fighting the Crimson Tide traffic (hosting San Jose) in Tuscaloosa. Nice folks at the Boss Hoss, better ribs (and lots of them too). Only thing was that the bathroom was not fit for even washing hands!

Point? Well I could never have eaten in that joint back in the Jim Crow days. Good riddance I say!

Thoughts and prayers to those in the tornado ravaged areas.

It's not good in my neighborhood but I won't be able to make a sight report until Sunday (I'm in NH, MA and PA this weekend). So far 30 dead, lots of folks missing including two of our neighbors and no power for at least 5 days as the big high voltage transmission lines are down. Massive damage to the next little town over from us and at least one nearby rural neighborhood has disappeared. My wife and I are so lucky that our place wasn't touched but I get a strong feeling our lives will have been changed forever.

Fortunately, those winds were still going straight when they came through here. It was a bit freaky when gusts sounded like a freight train in the roof at work.

I expect I'll be riding through Tuscaloosa next Wednesday or Thursday.....unless I hear I should re-route.

I sure hope everyone we all know survived intact, and God Bless those who need a little help right now.

Same here, I have heard tornados in person before and the freight train noise the wind made here woke me from a sound sleep and scared the crap outa me. I looked outside prepared for it to be a tornado, luckily it wasn't. Did have some close to me though with deaths reported.

Hope your friends turn up OK Ed.

We will keep a good thought for you and yours Ed and all your neighbors. We were lucky here... just a scare with my daughter at college as the same cells that devastated Cartersville passed nearby to her (and to Chy and Di). Let us know if we can do anything for you.

Thanks buddy we're going to be okay. One of my neighbors and his son moved my generator from my shop to the house so Harriet has access to electricity but she'll have to ration it until a local gas station comes back online. I might have to trek over to GA to refuel if no joy by Sunday (that's when I get back). Our friends in Rainsville are really hurting, though, and it's a bad feeling to be away and not to be able to help.

I've got a cousin that lives in Hayden who we can't get ahold of yet. They're truckers, so I'm hoping they are on the road.

I got home from the northeast last evening. My place was spared any damage, just a power blackout for the weekend.

I purposely took a route that would allow me see the affected area on the mountain plateau above my house. About two miles from us is a half mile wide swath that stripped everything from the earth; houses, tress, vehicles, vegetation...just 10 foot tall stumps and remnants of foundations and ruble. No matter if your place was brick or manufactured housing nothing remains.

It just so very sobering. Like a moonscape with tree stumps and debris. A pile of rubble that used to be a very big church, an auto shop that's only a knee high wall of cinder block...you get the idea. It's very disorienting because all of the familiar landmarks are gone; even though I know the area I couldn't tell where I was.
