Wow Damien, though luckily all the damage is pretty much concentrated right there in the rear of your bike, and it looks like you were able to keep your bike upright during all this, eh?!

Glad you're not hurt, and appear to be lookin' on the bright side of all this.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune but at least you are okay and the bike is not to bad. I had a similar hit on my speedy and she is better than ever now. I just checked my swingarm in the dark but felt it with my fingers and there is a very slight variation due to the bend starting there. I would not call it a dimple though. Check your footpeg and brake lever too as on mine they bent as well. My headlight had a small scrape too.

Damien, you are very lucky....I was hit like that at a stop sign about 40 yrs ago and managed to stay on the bike and in one piece but the bike really suffered from it.
I checked the swing arm on my '03 America and it has the same dimple that you show on yours.

What the heck is going on around here. Glad to hear your ok.
I would have that swingarm check as that does not look normal.

Spring is in the air. People get stoopid delirious. Throw in cell phones and inexperience and it's a recipe for disaster for us.

Yep! They're about to pass an anti-texting while driving law here in AZ, and on the TV news item covering this yesterday they interviewed a mother who has been one of the driving forces behind this bill and who's son was killed while doing this.

And THEN they had a quick on-the-street interview with a 20-something girl who told the reporter that even if they do pass this law she'll "still probably text while driving anyway"!

(...needless to say, I yelled at my TV with somethin' like, "YOU FRIGGIN' MORON!!!!")

Good to hear I'm not the only person that yells at the T.V.

Using a mobile whilst driving has been illegal in the U.K. for years. It's still something you see every day.

Glad to hear you came out of it ok Damien

Damien, Glad you're ok and only minimal damage.

Make sure you check out that rear tire. Given the fact that the rim was bent and the insurance is paying, I'd replace it. Get the rear bearings done on the wheel hub at the same time. You might want to check that chain also...is that rust forming on it?

You sure have a positive outlook on it but more than that, I'm glad you're OK. It could have been a lot worse but I'm sure that has already crossed your mind. Probably a good thing you didn't have the fabbed up rack on at the time, right? Hope it all works out that you actually do get that big fat back tire. If so, you'll have to show it off at one of the upcoming Arkansas rallies.

There is a video about texting while driving that is rather graphic

Here's a news article about it and some teenagers reactions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiEFjt6ouqI&feature=related

And here is the video, like I said, graphic, and apparently banned in the USA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMYKXSPgaIw

Sorry for going all

Hmmmmmm....from the way you prefaced the above Bryn, I'm not sure I wanna watch those videos!

(...ya see, I can't really afford a whole new laptop computer right now, and I'm gettin' the feelin' that if I DID watch those suckers, I'd probably fling THIS ONE across the room!!!)

I'm still recovering from watching that other video with all the red light runners. Think I've had enough graphic for a while.

Ah, well Keith, the difference is that the red light runners are real people involved in real situations, whereas "my" film is all actors and tomato juice. I find keeping this in mind helps, although the dead baby (doll) bit is a bit upsetting, but I've seen too many real dead babies
