Last night the wife and I went to a Jazz Jam at Vintage 56 in Rockledge, FL. They had an extensive list of beers and I got a Belhaven Scottish Ale on draft. This was the best ale I have had in a very long time, and I would highly recommend it to everyone. We'll be going back to Vintage 56 (the restaurant was really good as well), so I can get some more of that Scottish Ale. Tom

I second that motion! Bellhaven also makes a brown ale called the St. Andrews Ale. I was lucky enough to enjoy one @ St. Andrews last September.

Hey-I grew up a short pebble throw from the brewery-this has got to be one of the most beautiful sites anywhere- next to a long deserted beach and with all the beer you could possibly wish for. Good pint too,it is. Al

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Anyone ever had Hacker-Pschorr, Octoberfest brew. Its VERY VERY VERY TASTY. For you guys in Fl. the only place I have ever seen it is in Jacksonville at the European Street Cafe's. Get there for the happy hour pints or larger! (supposed to be a 2 serving limit on the bigones,,,, never seen them stop me. I lived w/ in stumbling distance of the Riverside location) http://europeanstreet.com/Home.aspxThey also make a Weisse, but I dont care for wheat beers.

Yes,I've had this-fortunately modern antibiotics can cure it. Come on friends, there is truly no comparison between a basically medieval brew and a fizzy fuzz bomb. (though I suppose I might be a wee bit biased) Al

On the train to Edinburg in the morning for the rugby and beer (ok the beer). Bellhaven is great though my mate has found a pub near the station that has draught Timothy Taylors - now you're talking! http://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/Default.aspxChampionship beers Will be having one or three of Bellhaven's finest later today!

I think i would say that you guys in the UK have a leg up on being able to claim the Mid - Evil moniker to anything! If I ever make it to the UK remind me to pack an extra liver and have the O. R. team ready to keep me going for the continuation of the onslaught of pub crawling going!

I was in St Galen, Switzerland last week and went by the SchutzenGarten brewery/ brewpub. Excellent dunlkle and a good zwickle bier. As was previously said, nothing beats a good local beer.
plus one on the timothy taylor - IMHO miss september is the best.

sadly Tunbridge wells is pretty much where it's always been...it's me that moved (good few years back now) and having acquired a family they vetoed any attempt at a return home.....I get back when I can though, but not often to Dunbar ( dont know anyone there anymore) but to Edinburgh where I still have family. Boulevard Dry Stout is my favorite. Guinness will do if it's not available.

I've tried the 'old engine oil' and consider it a pretty accurate description of the taste.....not my sort of stuff.....too dark ,heavy, treacle like and unless its for the alcohol content, I wouldnt buy it again.....but hey....I wouldnt buy another Harley again either and plenty of folk like these too.

Ha Ha, Maybe you just got one that wasn't the right mix! It's good when you need to lubricate your moving parts, clean the internals and probably even inhibits corrosion. Like all good things it can be an acquired taste though. And you definitely won't like founders porter then, some say its like cold coffee and ciggies, I love that to but I doubt you will find it in a Haymarket pub http://www.foundersbrewery.co.nz/

Its true, "when the bottom is falling out your world have a curry and let the world fall out your bottom" And like curry you need to watch the old porters the next day else you can have a trouser malfuction. Its all the iron in it, like Guinness (which is descended from porter), but anything that keeps you regular has to be good for you. I used to be pretty much a lager guy until I went to a beer tasting at work and started trying all these crazy ales. The Emerson Brewing Company is one of our top Boutique Beer makers in NZ http://www.emersons.co.nz/ Check these out if you get a chance. Their porter isn't my favourite but I think with this type of beer you need to try quite a few to find the ones you like, which aint that bad a way to spend a rainy day and like Guinness I think they are a bit more of a winter drink and a bit of a meal.

Good on ya Al,
Call it research, that way you may get a government grant and a doctorate out of it. Let me know what your findings are Dr.
Gonna see if I can get any Timothy Taylors out here and give it a go, think I may have tried it when I used to travel to the east coast for Partick Thistle away games (self inflicated pain). In those days all I drank was Grolsh & Becks cause we thought it was super trendy and the only other beer we knew was Tennants Larger
