I just wanted to say, Welcome! I run with a Corbin and can agree with you about the stock seat. Hopefully someone will chime in with feedback on the newspeedmaster seat.

First of all...welcome to the site. The newspeedmaster seat is much smaller and less supportive than your stock seat. It's low-profile and the way it's made is there is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of some very hard foam, topped with about an inch of very soft foam which crushes down to the hard foam and does not add support. The seat is good for less than 100 miles. Then forget about it. This is only my opinion and I do not believe the Newspeedmaster seat is an upgrade in feel...just looks. If you want a good, COMFORTABLE seat, go with the Corbin. It's the most comfortable I've sat on and I have had a lot of seats: Stock America, Stock Speedmaster, Stock Touring, Corbin, a couple of my own low-profile seats that I make, and the Newspeedmaster Low-Profile. The Corbin will provide you with plenty of area to sit on, it's contoured, and it's firm. It's the best. If you want to just firm up your seat, you need to get it re-covered with some thick, heavy leather and it will change it quite a bit. Other options is to send your seat to get some new foam. Some other guys could chime in about that.

Welcome to the forum. I've had my seat re-done with heavier foam. It's an improvement but I would expect a corbin to be better.Of course that's a more expensive option.

Welcome to our forum Chris. I'm another Corbin nut and besides the shocks I realized pretty well immediately following my first big ride, if a good seat didn't fix my bum soreness my bike and me were going to have a short relationship.
If there is any down side to a Corbin, it'll be due to it taking a few thousand K's for it to mould into your shape but once there, no pressure points will exist.

#1 on the Corbin w/backrest, there are a lot sexier looking seats available, but the Corbin rules for comfort on a ride of any real distance.

Hey welcome to the site Chris. I just recently fitted the Newspeedmaster low profile seat to my speedmaster so I can give you the ups and downs. It looks fantastic and gets alot of comments. It gives you a lower centre of gravity which I really like. The bad side however is it is very hard. My backside starts to hurt at say not much more than 150 kilometres and becomes unbearable at around 200 klm. I really like the look and the ride height but the pain is too much eventually.

I had my Triumph Touring seat reshaped and foam changed and it's great. Biggest plus was, quarter the price of a Corbin.

Thanks for all the advice the only thing I don't like about the corbin is it loks bulky and I'm bobbing the rear but I suppose I should worry about comfort more.

I'm planning on getting a Maverick low profile seat this year (with my avatar stitched or carved into it). I'm going to attempt to travel moderate distances on it with my AirHawk cushion, but if that doesn't work, I'll use the Corbin and pack along the Maverick. It should be small enough to strap to my duffle. Then I swap seats when I get to where I'm going, leaving the Corbin in the hotel room . I'd probably only do this for trips like the Kootenay Raid in Nelson or SWTF in Prescott, where I'd be hanging out with people who'd care to see it. Otherwise it will be Maverick for local riding and Corbin for long distances.

Before you give up on your Gunfighter, try sitting closer to the tank, further up to the front of the seat for a while. I found a sweet spot up there after trying for a couple of years to sit back in the seat, even up onto the rise to the pillion even. Sitting closer to the tank made a big difference to me, and I ride several hundred mile stretches regularly. When I installed the TRIUMPH Touring Seat, I found the same to be true. I have not tried to push back in the seat since, unless I'm putting my feet on the rear pegs for longer highway runs, and that works very well then. Don't give up on your stock seat so soon!

Again welcome to the site. I like a few others here have sent their seat to Great Day To Ride. Spencer took an inch out of my seat as well as added the gel padding. It is great. Until I can afford a fully custom seat, I think it is the way to go. ~Brent

I bought a seat on ebay uk from a guy called maverick customs and he shipped to NZ. Its low profile so you end up sitting further down, which I prefer as a riding position but with anything low profile there is always be a trade off as it will have less padding. The leather is soft though, which does help. I hit numb bum at around 160km (100 miles) but I reckon that’s a good time to stop for a coffee and a stretch. Going for a big ride this weekend so thinking about digging out the old lycra cycling shorts with the gel padding to wear underneath the leathers. Only problem is the rear end will probably look like your wearing a diaper, but if its comfy then who cares. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I had one...I could ride for about 60 miles before I had to get off it. Dunnspeed made me a new seat with custom tooling...it works so much better than the newspeedmaster low profile. I would contact Dunnspeed (see vendor section). Here is a few pic's of the seat:

Yeah, he has a thread in the Vendors forum. I'm planning on ordering a custom seat this year.

Yeah, I just noticed that once I posted that it was the same guy. Just goes to show you can save a whole bundle of research if you hit the BA forum first.
I also ordered a bobbed fender from him and he shipped both at the same time for one price. Quick shipping and was willing to ship to NZ and was a lot less than a triumph single seat.

Has anyone tried the touring seat from British Customs? It looks like it has a lot of lower back support. Pretty good chunk of change but if it saves your back...

Is it just me, or is it really true that nearly every America or Speedmaster that gets put up for sale by owner has had a lot of modification to bars, seats, wheels and/or tire sizes, etc.? I rejetted for the TORs, replaced the burned out speedo bulbs with LEDs, and replaced the bulbs in the console with LEDs, too, but I trust TRIUMPH knows what they're doing in the way of engineering a motorcycle....but to each his own.

There is something funny about these bikes. It's hard to leave them alone. I bought it because I like the looks of it stock. Then I started looking around, and changed one little thing (choke knob) then another and another. It's an addiction. I'm always looking for the next little project to do on it.

Went for a longish ride on the weekend and spent around 6 hours (with a couple of half hour breaks) in the saddle and lost all sensation around hour 2. Thing is though once the numb bum sets in, it only lasts a wee while then you forget about it and if you can push through it goes away. It wasn't so bad that it made me want to stop riding. Of course you can add more padding to the seat but then you lose the low profile look, so I reckon like most problems you just have to look at it from a different angle. Why not get a bit of padding added to the leathers instead (stick a bit of padding in temporary) to see if it makes a difference and if you come off it will provide a bit of cushion anyway. As for spending money on the bike- Yeah, I was determined to leave as stock and in less than 6 months I have a bobbed fender to fit, speedo in the tank console, t-bars, new seat and looking to lower the back end, powder coat the forks and respray the bike. Would like to hard tail it and put a fat tyre on the back but I think if I go down that path I should just sell it and get an old cheap one to destroy.

visiting this site can do that, I'm trying to keep my bike stock(looking) the only thing helping me is that I don't have too much spare coin after the bills are paid
