So I bought myself a trickle charger for my battery. Works great but only when the battery cover and plastic bits are all taken off. It's too much work! Are there any products on the market that allow me to get to the battery posts without taking off the plastic covers? Some sort of metallic tab that would extend out? I'm sure that someone on here has done a DIY mod to do this. I know I could just lose the plastic do-dads but I like the way it looks with them on.

Is there a trickle charger that works with a power port? Wire in one of those.

Can use the same polarized connection that comes with a battery tender. We actually carry a couple chargers at Wal Mart in my department that come with that connector and have the safety shut off so as not to over charge. They are Schmacker.

I bought a Battery Tender Plus and it came with leads that bolt to the battery terminals and have an outlet on the other end that you can leave on the bike and plug the trickle charger into when you need it.

I have the powerlet female plug that is plug and play to a connection under the tank which even has a hole cut into our frames to hold into place. Do a search on powerlet in the accessories section. Then also buy the powerlet male connector and because most 12v wiring consists of only a positive and negative wires, cut off the existing wire end from your tender leads and connect them to the male connector. Powerlet sends a diagram which shows where the positive and negative connections attach. Then simply plug into your bike's new female powerlet fixture and turn on the charger and you'll be charging your battery.

I have the same Powerlet set-up as Staffo (above). It is very convenient and well positioned for wet weather. As Staffo says it's a very useful power connection source - I use mine for a GPS and for charging phones and ipods - and my trickle charger.

When I bought my second, used 07 TBA, it already had the leads attached. I wasn't sure if I could feed power back through it so I installed one of these ChargeX battery chargers: From Newspeedmaster.com, chargeX solid state chargerIt fits very nicely under the seat and seems to work.

Excellent idea - I hadn't thought of that. That would be very handy if you couldn't get to compressed air at a service station.
Can you recommend a good compact air pump?

Slime makes a good palm sized pump and repair kit.
