Laurie and I went and saw Dr. Demento tonight at Reed College (where he went to schools and got his start in radio). He talked about how his career got started and also played some of the best music (and showed a few videos)from his radio shows. Among the videos he showed was Fish Heads video and one of my all time favorite movies Bambi Meets Godzilla. He ended the show by singing [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rpq6u8hYgk]Shaving Cream[/url], which was first recorded in 1946 but was a top 10 hit on the billboard charts in 1975 because of Dr. Demento. After the show I got to meet him for a minute or two. It was well worth the $5 it cost to get in and see him. The only other song that I wish he would have played, but didnt was Existential Blues.

That's someone that I haven't heard in a long time! He use to come on a local radio station, I don't know if it was late Fri. or a Sat. nite.

I use to love the Dr. Demento show, every Sunday morning I would get up to listen.

When I was growing up he was on every Sunday night.

When I was letting some people know that we were going to go see him, most of the responses I got were "He's still alive?". I thought he would be much older, but found out that he's only the same age as my dad, born in 1937.

Man. Blast from the past. Listened to him in Virginia in the 70's.

Ahh..."Pico & Sepulveda"! Loved it!!!

That was always my favorite of Dr.D's selections, along with Jerry Colonna's "Autumn in Azusa"...where there's everything from A to Z in the USA!

(...yeah, I guess it helped if you grew up in SoCal like I did!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Ah, yes, memories. Used to listen to him also. Of course with the transistor radio down low, because Mom wouldn't let me listen if she knew. How do you all remember the titles? I just remember the content. Dwight, and yes, living in SoCal with the radio stations there, exposed you to a lot of ........ (fill in the blank). I liked Wolfman Jack too.
