I just got off the phone with a friend i grew up with (he lives in mi.) and we got to talkin old times when he ask if i remembered my first 55 chevy. we had some really fun times in that car, like when i changed the steering wheel to a custom job and didnt install the keeper bolts only installed the center nut, so we got about half way to the A&W when the wheel gave loose and started just spinning, in the middle of a busy intersection hahahahaha he grabed the vise grips and handed it to me, i grabbed that center nut and drove arond with vise grips for a steering wheel for the rest of the night. man, did we laugh about that. but anyway it got us to talkin about all the cars and bikes we had back then and it got me to thinkin. if you could get back any car you have ever owned which one would it be?? then i thought i have owned so many there are some i am sure i dont remember hahahaha but i have owned at least one and some more than one from 53 thru 64 chevy's and many other cars of course. i sure did like my 68 cutlass and my 56 chevy but i think my 65ss was one of my most favorites. but of all the cars i think i would like to own another metropolitin nash hahaha, that little thing was just a hoot, had a lot of fun in that car, actually had 2 but my yellow and white was the best or maybe my amphicar now that thing was trully a blast!!!! to just ride off into the lake and watch people panic was a kick. so my question i guess is, if you could get back any car you have had, which one would it be?? the car of my dreams but have never had would be a 53 buick skylark droptop. what a car!!!!

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Hey newt, speakin' of "Amphicars"....there was one of those at the B-J Auction, too! And, guess what?! The thing just sold for...are ya ready for this?...$123,200.00!!!!!

And, regarding the car I'd most want back? Well, speakin' (again) about a car that could do "double-duty" as another type of vehicle, I'd have to say that probably first on that list of cars I'd like to get back would be my 1969 El Camino.

(...though I'll bet my old El Camino probably made a heck of a lot better truck than did your old Amphicar make a boat, huh???!!!)

You had a Metropolitan, huh? I was trying to find one of those for my wife before I decided on the '49 Dodge. Myself, I would love to have my 1950 5-window Chevy 3/4 ton pickup again... it sure would have been a nice truck by now. I also had much love for my 1980 Bronco, that thing was a tank. I am currently in negotiations (with the seller and my wife) to get a 1967 International Travelall. Should make a perfect work truck for me.

The only car I would like to have back again was my 1937 chevy street rod. 350, four on the floor, camaro rear end, rack and pinion steering ran like a top with never any problems. I bought it rough, and had it lookin good. I had to sell it to build the septic system in my then new place in the country. Had to do it for my family. God, I hated to see it go.

I'd like to see those pix if you can find 'em. There were a couple of very nice AMXs at the B-J Auction, and I had kinda forgotten what a clean and uncluttered design it truly was.

Well, I have two that I would like back:
My '65 K-code Mustang T-10 four speed, and my '70 beetle.

I sometimes think the Norton would be nice, but only if I could get rid of the vibration

It wasnt a hot car by any meeans, but have a lot good memories... 1969 Plymouth Valiant. It had the 225 slant 6 in it. I put a ton of miles on that thing in the couple of years that I owned it.

Well for you guys over the pond .The name's of your old cars are real . Over here my old cars were a Ford cortina, Ford corsair and a Austin 1300GT . Dont sound the same as a Chevy,Bronco and a Mustang. I know we had the Jags and Aston Martins. But those sorts of cars were out of most young peoples bracket. Rember going to the pics to see American Graffiti in 73 Wow that blew me away with those Cars. Have always wanted a hot rod like the one in the film. atb geoff

I'll see if I can find those shots, I think they were B&W polaroids. The car was a bronze/brown color with light tan interior and a white stripe.

well...you didnt put an age limit on this thread and your cars were way cooler than mine but this was the first car I had to get a loan to buy and I had it for 10 years. I raced it, restored it and to this day loved driving this car....

87 Honda CRX SI

Mine had Panasport wheels and fog lights.

My friend had a Gremlin with a V8 in it, that was kinda cool. The Javalin wasn't too bad. Sort of a tame AMX. AMX was a 2 seater and Javalin had a back seat.

Yeah, well, I suppose IF one were into, say, "potted plants" back in the day, THEN those hatchbacks COULD come in quite handy for one's "transportation needs" sometimes, couldn't they, Keith???!!!

Mine was my 1959 VW Bus. Not, my first (my third bus actually), not a 21 window or ragtop, but I was the second owner, and it was just cool. Could do almost 55 mph, going downhill. I'd get the finger all the time from other drivers on the freeway.

Like this only in a beige color, with brownish/gold interior. I wish I could find a photo of it.

I scrapped a VW bus like that and mine was the camper version. Had all the wood work in it and the small square pop up in the roof. I cut the engine and trans out for a friend who raced open wheel VW powered race car. I also had a 63 VW Bug,would like to have that one back too. Put a 914 engine and trans in it and a Munsters style shifter among some other stuff kids do. I wasn't old enough to drive when I got that one. It was fun when I used to sneak it out at night. The Porsch donor was free, a friend of mine owned it and it got so rusted out you couldn't close the doors if you sat in it so he gave it to me.I ended up selling it to a friend for $300 and he never even paid me that. Mine had all the bumper guards and stuff left one it plus I added some chrome, MG mirrors on the side just behind the front turn signals, hood ornament at the end of the chrome hood strip etc..

I really liked my '41 Ford with a hotrod 59L flathead, even though it couldn't make it to the beach without a stop to let it cool down.
The '52 Plymouth that I stuffed a Hemi engine into was great. Unfortunately, it was a summer car because there was no room left after the engine swap for a heater.
I guess my top favorites would be my '58 TR3 with the engine bored out bigger than a TR4 and my 383 powered Jensen Interceptor MK3.

Ahh, my very first car when I turned 16 was a 1972 Chevelle...I miss that car. Got into a lot of trouble with that car...lots of speeding tickets. But what do you expect when you give a hotrod to a 16 year old?!!

I'd like to have my '65 Plymouth Sport Fury (383 c.i. Commando). With surf racks on the top, it took me and my friends to the beach all through my HS/College years. Sometimes too often as my GPA would attest.

That's cool Brent. My first car was a '59 Beetle with a 900cc motor cranking out 36 HP. You can easily imagine how slow that thing went up the mountain road around here! Good times!

hey John, i had a 68 beetle with sunroof that i baja'ed like that also. had a friend at the time that was Mr. V.W. and he set that engine up for me and it would break a 100mph without a sweat. i could be doing 70 punch it and you could feel it accelerate hard. i wouldnt believe it if i didnt own the car myself. i made over 26 round trips from fl. to mi. with that car and never had a lick of trouble, she still got better than 25mpg...awsome car. then it got destroyed by a mack garbage truck in ft lauderdale, guy hit me 5 times and 4 of us walked away without a scratch. although i am sure the pains i have in my neck today stem from that accident. man, thats a car i wouldnt mind having back also. the only V.dub i never owned was the chia and always wanted one, had a bus, a squareback and a sedan but always wanted a droptop chia. some of the cars that have been mentioned here i have owned, you guys are bringing back some good and some not so good memories hahahahaha

I had a couple actually; I had a couple nice Pontiacs, a 1970 GTO and a 1970 Grand Prix. I actually liked the Grand Prix better than the GTO and not a classic or anything but the 1998 Toyota 4Runner that I traded a couple years back for a new 07 Tundra. Just a great vehicle that never needed anything and ran like a top. Wish I wouldn't have traded her.

Yeah, the baja had a hopped up engine that came with one of the donor cars. It was a lot of fun.
