newt, I hope the surgeries went well for your son, he and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers, we all wish him a quick recovery, we are so thankful that he did survive that fall. I can only imagine what he and his family are going through. Please keep us updated.
You and Diamond (Sue) are some of our closest friends, like family to us, you have helped us when you saw we had a need, some of the best people we have ever met.

OUCH!

That hurts in a lot of ways, Newt!

Keep everyone here informed, and I'm sure everyone here will keep him and the family in our prayers.

Myke,

I'm shaking my head as I read this post. Fate has really been dealing your family a bad hand. Will be thinking of your families plight during the day.

Glad to hear that things aren't quite as bad. Still not good though. Would you consider printing some of the posts from the gang as an encouragment for your son? Not sure if he would appreciate it but I know I would if in a similar predicament. May the Lord bless you guys.

done that greg and he sure was impressed to see this from so many people he dont know, brought a little tear to his eyes he sez thank you all for your wishes and prayers. he does know how much this(B.A.COM) extension of my family means to me but never thought that we would mean so much to so many strangers (as he put it)i said there are no strangers here, just friends we havnt met yet. So now for an update, last night they fused his wrist and hand with plates and screws, the doc sez all went well and he will be able to use that hand as soon as the stitches heal and the wrapping comes off. our world as we know it has been turned completely upside down. 20yrs ago i would be in the bottle, but these days i know now is not the time for that. thank you all for your prayers and best wishes.

Good news for his hand and for you staying out of the bottle. My husband has been sober for 18 yrs and 3 months...what a blessing YOU are to your family. Keep plugging away and this will all be a memory someday. Praying for your family daily.

Very best wishes to you all.. Hopefully he will recover really quickly, don't forget to look after yourself too, these things take it out of you.. (Two of mine have long-term health issues, and we've had some very scary years, so you have my very best wishes - being there when you need to be is just 'what you do' as a Dad.. But it still has an impact.. Take care fella, and all the best to you and yours

well it looks like he might be going home today?? so i went out there last night and built ramps so he can be wheeled in and out.somebody donated a wheelchair and, portapot and i guess there will be a nurse comming everyday to assist and check/redress the open wound and he will be seeing the doc on a regular basis. so things are moving in the right direction. i am having a hard time understanding how they could be sending him home after just a week but he is stubborn and i am concerned that he is pushing the issue. i know he is tired of being in that bed but there is just so much still wrong. his mom and i think he should stay but who are we??? hahahaha so i am waiting for the call to help get him home today, i am sure he will be more comfortable at home and the good news no more intavenus superdrugs as we have been worried about the addiction factor. i am sure he will get pills so we still worry but he has never been a pill taker persay but we are still gonna have to watch that.i guess things are moving in a positive direction

newt,
whenever one can get out of the germ incubator, all the better. Going home is like taking a step back. For the first day or two. Then all of a sudden 20 steps are taken forward as the home surroundings, familiar surroundings, are one of, if not the best medicine! Just be sure to keep the bell just out of his reach after those 20 steps are achieved!

Positive news. Speedy recovery to your son.

P.S. What is your son's first name?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

To shatter a heel bone is something else as it's one of the hardest bones in the body to break so I can imagine how painful the whole thing must have been for him.

Anyhow looks like you got a bit of running around to do for him now.....if you ask Paul or Jane off here maybe they'll lend you a nurses uniform.

Hey Myke... it's good to hear your son is going home. Yeah, it seems soon but as Moe put it, at least he's out of the 'germ incubator' and back to familiar terrain. And just having him near, and you near for him will be a comfort and an aid to healing.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery!!

It has been found that people heal much faster when they are in a less stressful situation. Home is much better than a hospital.
Bedsides, hospitals are full of sick people. More infections occur in hospitals than anywhere else, and open wounds are quite susceptible to staph infections.

Home is the best place for his recovery!!!The visiting nurse will keep tabs on him and make sure everything is healing ok. You just have to make sure he doesn't push himself too hard, a little is ok but too much is too much, nothing is worse than injuring an injury (especially when small bones are concerned). As far as drugs, watch out for O.C.(oxy codine)sp? they are very addictive!!!
