Decided I want to show a bit more back tyre and change the tail light. Picked up a bent guard cheap on ebay and here is where it's at now. Still a few dents to get rid off but the basic line I want is there. keeping the standard numberplate and indicators, fitting smaller ones further forward would foul my bags. I am fittin a smaller rectangular tail light, shown below the guard, but I may move it to above the registration plate, ( that would be the road legal size UK plate unfortunatley though). Painting should be next month. Now this may be a bolt on but its a custom to me.

This guard is not a joke you know
Well Keith, I am going to have the paint standard Pacific Blue, If I was to pick up a front guard and tank I would go with a complete new paint scheme, funds dont allow that at present.

I wanna see it done because I was thinking about cutting one of my spare fenders like that and doing a Zmilin-style laydown license place bracket with built in brake light and turnsignals.

Still working on the bracket for the tail light, but I might get to fit it as it is this weekend. the lines are not going to be that far away from the 2011 Speedmaster looking at the pictures, in fact a standard Bonneville tail light with indicators may be a straight bolt on. keeping my eye out for one to see and will have a look next time I am in dealer.

BTW, your post was the one that finally made the light go off in my head that this forum needed to be more about the process of customization rather than a showcase for custom rides. As a bonus the change in focus allows me to side-step the whole "definition of a custom" debacle.

I say, Willie ol' boy. Why would this bobbed fender...err, I mean mudguard, not be "legal" over there in Blighty???
Stephen hasn't cut his fender...err, I mean mudguard down any more than, say, what the Thunderbird's and/or the 2011 Speedmaster's rear mudguard(see how fast I learn? ) looks like!
(btw Stephen, your cut there looks to be just about the exact same cut I made on mine about a year ago...oh, and I ended up usin' one of those old style Lucas taillight assemblies, afterward)

You're breaking new ground here Stephen... a bit of a pioneer under the new guidelines! And your mudguard project is of particular interest to me, as I too have my mind set on morphing the same piece of tin.

Well Billy much as I hate the full size plate, Its a lot less bother over here to just have a legal one. Bit of progress today for you to see. Bracket for tail light, bit of stainless sheet. Indicators, light and plate mount fitted. The UK plate fitted I have a Canadian plate Keith so will stick it on for next picture when I try the guard on the bike before it goes of to be painted, that may be a week or two, I need a new fridge pronto.

Oh, sorry ol' chap!
Yeah, I know what you're talkin' about. At the 2009 Euro Rally in Poland, I met a few of your buddies...err, I mean your mates from Blighty , and one of the topics of conversation happened to be about the size of British M/C license plates. And, I think it was Andy(but I'm not sure) who had cut his down a bit, and a few other Brits asked him how much he got hassled by The Man.

If you visit North Wales, it's even worse! Some bloke got stopped there recently and the copper got a ruler out and measured the letters on his plate. They were 1/8 inch too small so they did him! (source; Motorcycle News)

Have you considered the idea of turning the whole taillight assembly 180 degrees(i.e. "upside-down" in relation to the way you have it now), so that the billboard...err, I mean your license plate sits below the line of the new fender cut and wouldn't be sitting up and thus drawing the eye to it as much?

I considered putting the light above the plate instead of below as shown, There is about a 3" gap between the top of the plate and the bottom of the rack. going to check out how it looks when I have the guard on the bike. Dont think I want to lower the billboard any, that would just cover up what I have cut of, I would need a new plate as well to drill new holes.

Not sure of the original list price, but thats what they are. Bought it from a Triumph dealers ebay shop. Buy it now was £450. I was the only bider and got them at the starting price. a two days later Im still smiling. There are also some good deals on the chrome wheels kits if anybody in Uk is interested.

Nice grab for sure! That rear fender is looking sharp as well. Bobbing the rear fender is winter project as well.

A little more progress, I decided to mount light above the registration plate, it will be about 1 1/2" below the bottom of the rack and almost level with the back. Standard bracket mod to fit light. The wiring will be hidden in the extension. To be painted black.
