Finally got around to taking some additional photos. These show the left side and right side of my '03 America that I have been modifying since it was new. Changes from the last photos...Norman Hyde M Bars, lost the additional light bar, back to stock pegs, football hand grips. Next on the list is still to make some changes to the back fender. Cheers, Steven

What seat do you have on this bike? It looks much more substantial (comfortable?) than the other solo seats I've seen.

That is some kinda sweet. I really like the color inversion on the front fender and the old school tank badges. Clean and understated just the way I like em.

Thank you all for the nice comments...Yes, the seat is a Corbin that I purchased years ago. It is bigger than what I think looks great, but it is very comfortable and it also helps hide the electronics that are stuffed up underneath.

That looks great. Can you post a picture of the handlebars from the top. I had been thinking about M bars, but wasn't sure how they would look. Are they a comfortable riding position? Thanks, Brent

Brent, I'll try to pull the bike out again today and do a photo from the top (my view when riding). I think the bars are comfortable...the certainly put you much more forward than stock bars, but not as much as a Thruxton. I don't ride long distances on this bike any more...I have a Rocket III Touring for distance...so this bike is more of a local rider.

White walls would suck on that bike! Its a clean look, white walls would throw off the colour balance, and create an over done look. Black rims with chrome spokes may look good and maintain balance.

I dont know Todd I'm on the fence right now. The light color fender doesnt go well with the white walls. But it looks good on the back Then the front looks good with black rims but gets lost on the back

Nice bike, what kind and size of airfilters are those, and did you need to rejet to put them on?

Thanks for the Photoshop..it helps. After seeing it, I think I am going to just stick with blackwalls. The tires are relatively new so it wasn't something high on the list.
To SaltShaker...Filters are the ones that came with the Freak Kit...I've had them for quite a while now.

CDL, yes, exactly right. Somehow this old (1.5 years) thread was resurrected. The other thread I noted above shows the current state of mt America (bobbed, small speedo in console, etc). My attention has now turned to my new addition....a 2011 Thruxton....still unclear of what the end result will be....that's half the fun. Here are the two together.... Cheers, Steven

Teeg,
Not sure this will be a full review of the Thruxton, but I will provide some thoughts after having it for a couple of months.
I have been a fan of Cafe Racers for years and with the increased popularity, I started to pay attention more to them. I had been thinking about either building a Cafe from an older Triumph, an older Japanese 4-cylinder, or getting a Thruxton. Realistically, all would have ended up being about the same cost so I went back and forth between style, reliability, my ability to customize, etc....
A deal on this Thruxton materialized that I could not pass up...I still dream of building a Japanese 4-Cylinder, but for now, I am completely thrilled with the Thruxton.
I am very amazed at how much different the ride feels between the Thruxton and my America. I had originally been a bit concerned about having two somewhat similar bikes...these really don't feel that similar.
The Thruxton is more comfortable than I had originally thought, however, this is certainly a personal thing. I doubt that the riding style would appeal to everyone on this site...the post a few days ago about riding ergonomics does a good job at showing the differences.
Much like the America, I am not satisfied with purely stock so I am in process of tuning it (Airbox removal, exhaust, AI Removal, Professions Re-Map, etc, etc). I will also continue to work on customizing it for aesthetics and riding performance over time too.
Again, not really a review, just my initial observations.
I am riding the Thruxton much more than the America right now, but that is to be expected a bit with the newness. I have zero intention of selling the America and see that the Thruxton could end up in that category too. For the past 2 years, I also had a Rocket III Touring. I thoroughly enjoyed the power and being able to ride long distances, but it just didn't get used enough..it was BIG it was hot in the city (especially Dallas Summers), and I ended up deciding to sell it to make room for the Thruxton. It was the right decision for me. I'll probably miss the R3T whenever weekender trips are planned with some friends, but I am not looking back.
My best advice for anyone interested in the Thruxton is to throw a leg over one and see how it fits...a few minutes riding one confirmed to me that this was a bike I really wanted.
Thanks, as always, for the nice comments....
Cheers, Steven

Best combination one can have Thruxton + America rule! Have this combination by myself - so the old dinosaurs Katana 1100 and ZRX 1100 are in the shed waiting for better times. Dan
