I'm more or less used to the "is that a triumph" and "do they still make those" questions.

Today however whilst I was out getting some groceries it would appear that the locals have upped their game.

The girl at the checkout asked me " are you not worried about breaking those eggs if you have an accident?"

Then I had a market reasercher ask me how I got to the store today while I was loading my shopping into the panniers.

Then to top it all, some old chap asked me while I was waiting in the queue for the petrol pump if my bike was electric as it was quite quiet.

Then people wonder why I think that Bletchley was a failed genetic experiment.

I remember a long time ago when i was dispatch riding on the streets of London. You would walk up to some office reception area, absolutely soaking wet, water dripping of your wet suit, and some little 19 year old receptionist would look up and say "Oh, is it raining?". Or you would be shivering with icicles hanging of your nose, and the receptionist would ask, "is it cold out?". But worse was when on a hot summers day, usually friday afternoon when you been battling Londons traffic all day, you got city grim all over your face, you stink of diesel, walk up to some receptionist and she says with a total dumbarse grin "oh look, it's a spaceman"

Oh the blissful days of dispatch in London. How i miss them............................NOT!

Walking into the office dressed in leathers carrying a helmet ...."Did you come in on the bike?" usually elicits the reply " Naw ah use a big skateboard"

I cannot decide whether to be a good example or a horrible warning ! Peace & respect http://www.tomcc.org/gg/ Eric

I still love the "is it cold out there?" question at work whilst I'm clinging to the radiator in the crewroom.

Eric, the last time someone asked me that I told them "no, bugatti veyron but i'm a nervous driver".

The one that makes me want to throttle people in the office is when they ask me, "Did you ride today?" And by today I mean a day like TODAY, like snow and ice still everywhere. The really annoying bit is it's usually the bikers in the office asking the question.

I like the ones who tell me that "They don't make Triumphs anymore." I now respond with "That's right, I built this one myself."

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Yeah I'll stand up in the "stock pipes anonymous" group.

My name is Graham and I use stock pipes.

I did have some drilled out ones but I had a bit of a mishap with them.

Well Graham ol' boy, I sincerely hope that your answers to those questions posed to you today were something along the lines of:

The girl at the checkout asked me:
[Q]-" are you not worried about breaking those eggs if you have an accident?"

[A]-"Why, OF COURSE the breaking of these eggs would be of my utmost concern in the unfortunate occurence of an accident! And by the way, thank you ever so much for you concern regarding their safety!"

Then I had a market reasercher ask me:
[Q]-how I got to the store today while I was loading my shopping into the panniers.

[A]- "By helicopter! I had this motorbike here flown in later and while I was inside that store shopping!"(pointing at the store you had just exited as you voiced the words "that store" would have been most helpful toward the questioner's ultimate understanding of your answer here, BTW)

Then to top it all, some old chap asked me while I was waiting in the queue for the petrol pump:
[Q]-if my bike was electric as it was quite quiet.

[A]-"No Sir. Inside these engine cases are two little wheels with hamsters running inside of them. The wheels are of course in a parallel and NOT in a "V" configuration here mind you, as this IS a proper BRITISH hamster-driven motorbike engine you see before you here!"

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Nope. This is a 1969 Bonneville that I customized with my own two hands in my garage. Bored it out to 790cc even.

Last week a guy walks up while I'm putting on my gloves and helmet and asks; "That your bike?" No, I replied, I'm stealing it.

I think he believed me...

That's always a good one. Depending on my mood I have a lot of answers for that one.

I often gets things to go at a fast food place, I just toss them in the Biker's Friend on the back of the bike. What I like is when they ask me "Would you like anything to drink with that?"

Well, seein' as how nobody here apparently has an answer to THAT one here EITHER, I guess I'll have to supply the answer to it for you guys just like I did for Graham....

[Q]-"Yeah, but who makes it?"

[A]-"OH! You mean WHO makes it, huh?! Well, most of the major components of this beautiful machine you see before you here are made by GNOMES in England, but then it's assembled by ELVES in Thailand!"

(I mean come on here fellas...all I see here is all you guys complainin' about these stupid friggin' questions you get, but where the heck are the answers, HUH?!...I wanna see some friggin' ANSWERS HERE!...yep, this thread so far is just like what Will Rogers used to always say.."Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it!")

Well, not bad there Keith, however I hope you realize that THAT answer would ONLY work if the fella who's askin' you this stupid question looks like one of THESE TWO fellas here....

(and yep, it DOES appear you DO realize this TOO, huh?!)

...OR I suppose that might work IF the guy askin' that stupid question looks kind'a like one or two of THESE fellas HERE maybe...

But then again, IF the dunderhead askin' this stupid question looked like one of these guys here, wouldn't there be a chance that he'd already KNOW the answer???

(BTW...look at them youngsters there...considerin' their lifestyle, who'd a thunk that at least two of 'em would still be around today and gettin' ready to headline the Super Bowl halftime show tomorrow, HUH???...now WHAT would you think would be the odds of THAT happenin' back in 1966 when this photo was probably taken, HUH???!!!)

When they ask who makes Triumph I usually either tell them this particular one was assembled by Bertey and Alph or that they are made by John Bloor.
