Ok. Silly question time again. I'm taking delivery of a set of progressive 440s today. Never having changed rear shocks before, will I need any special tools? do I need to compress the shocks to get them to fit? Any tips or advice much appreciated.

Just have someone lift the back end of the bike by the rear mudguard or put the bike on a lift until the rear wheel clears the ground.

Yup, that's what I did. All you need is a rachet and a helper to lift the rear fender enough take some weight off the shocks.

Do be careful to slowly torque the bolts back to spec, it's awfully easy to over tighten them and compress the bushing.

I think if you do one shock at a time you don't need to jack it up...

Also, recheck the torque on those shock bolts occasionally.

Thanks for the advice folks. As it so happens I didn't recieve the shocks today, couriers (city link) somehow managed to get parcel labels mixed up. They now say that they're trying to track my shocks, and I should get them in the near future (when ever that is)

How old is your bike? The old bushings might be frozen on. I had to rip the old shock off the bushing and tackle the frozen bushing by its self with a little bit of penetrating spray and a visegrip.Have a helper a round to help steady the bike!!

I had the frozen bushing issue when I lowered Wendy's bike and it was only a year old.

Ditto the frozen rubber bushing. It's like the factory glued them on.

Thanks again for advice. Shocks arrived this morning, now fitted. No sticking issues, just have to wait for rain to stop so I can take her out for a test ride.
