Yep, pretty much. A "Fiata" being a good nickname for it.

One of the reasons I purchased it was because I felt the FIAT stylists there in Turin Italy did a great job of taking a Miata chasis and then designing an updated look to the bodywork that's reminiscent of the beautiful original 124 Spiders that famed American car designer Tom Tjaarda penned back in 1966 while working for Pininfarina. One of which I also owned from the mid-'80s through the late-'90s. That being a 1977 (1756cc) model year example in my case, and on which I would come to replace those ugly post-1973 Fed-mandated bumpers with those like you had on your '72.

(...never had any problems with it during all those years I owned it btw, and so always making me say "BAH!" to anyone who'd tell me that old joke about "what FIAT stands for")
