I just pulled my bike out of a 5 year storage. I did not plan on storing it so I never drained the carbs or anything. Well I am thinking about getting a set of carbs of some kind to do a little up grade and same me some pain of cleaning and redoing the factory CV carbs. I have seen the Mikuni FRS but $1400 is a little more then I want to spend. There is a set of Mikuni VM carbs at Murry's carbs for $700. That doesn't seem to bad. There are others out there but it seems like a lot of the chooses are out of stock. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Yes, unless you are planning further performance mods, stay with the Keihin CVK's & OEM manifolds. For a number of reasons. Maybe lose the airbox, of not. With a little work (ha ha) those CVK's can be made to be almost as responsive as the VM's.

If your motor is stock you will only get so much out of a carb change. That said, there is definitely a grin factor to the improved response of the flat slides.

Have you done any mods to the CVK's ? there is certainly more to be had from the stock carbs at a lower cost. There are a number of posts in this section on things you could do.
Maybe think about what you ultimately want to do to the bike. Go from there.

And the VM's are round grin

Agree with the latter!

You can drill the air passage in the slides, trim/ change the springs on the slides, polish the opening, smooth the transition from carb to manifold, etc.. Keep in mind you do need some turbulence for proper combustion.
