Okay, I'm going what I think is the cheap route. My headers are blued to hell and back and there is not enough life left in my elbows to work that Blue Away long-enough to get it out. I'm going to black out my headers and pipes all the way back, along with some other pieces and parts to go along with a paint job. Question here is what's the best thing to use to black out a Chrome pipe given the heat? Doesn't seem like Powder Coating could work. Perhaps a black-nickle plating? Or just the old cheap Grill Paint? Any ideas?

I wrapped my headers with black exhaust wrap. I like the look and I never spend any time polishing. I've used the cheap grill paint... it works fine until you spill fuel or oil on it. If you're going to paint chrome, make sure you scuff all the shine off before painting.

I remember "back in the day" a lot of guys painted their pipes black. They used heat resistant crinkle paint. It came in a can and after you sprayed it on you started the bike and when the pipes got hot the paint formed a crinkle like finish. looked really cool. I think this paint is still around. I'm gonna fine some and paint the inside of my slash cut bubs.

if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

My Buddy used THIS on his headers for his Chevelle and it worked great and still looks good after almost 2 years. As for painting over chrome....I dunno.

Mark, man your bike looks great with the wrapped headers and the new seat and tank bib. What size tire did you go with on the front?

love the look you've got now!!

Jet Hot Coatings
Get them finished in the color you like. It's a permanent finish that looks terrific. Almost required on street rods, etc. these days.

Here is another idea. The stuff is called Chromex.

That Chromex looks nice. Depending on the cost I may go that route. I've found some folks who do a high-temp powder coating as well. Worse case I'll try that hi-temp paint after stripping the chrome. That will be fun!

The Chromex guys can coat the headers, pipes, and clamps for $140 + Shipping. That my friends is a deal!

Even better. Found a place down here in Jonesboro GA who carries the same products who will do headers and pipes for $115 and no shipping! Ordered the pipes yesterday and will bring them down to Jonesboro shortly and have have them coated. Then I'm done for a while.
