I don't know if anyone else heard about this - but I found it interesting:

A new Virginia law that took effect July 1st 2011 allows drivers of motorcycles and mopeds to treat red lights as stop signs provided they come to a complete stop for two minutes and determine it's safe to proceed. Bicycles will also be held to this new law — a moot point, since bicycles don't care about traffic laws to begin with.

The only time you'll be able to use this law seems to be late at night on back roads. If you're on a main road, you most likely won't have to wait a full two minutes, and during the day it probably won't be "safe to proceed." And red-light cameras don't care if you've stopped for two minutes, so you'll have to just wait.

...you're gonna feel a little pressure....

Kansas enacted a similar law earlier this year, I believe ours is if "after a reasonable time" the light doesn't change. Kind of the way they write laws around here; don't know if it still is but when I learned to drive the legal speed limit was what is "prudent" for the conditions - which means legally you could be given a ticket even if under the posted speed limit.

Missouri's takes effect 8/28, motorcyclists and cyclists, the article I read said it was also "after a reasonable time".

I don't know what state I was reading about that said "after two cycles" (of the light changing) -but if you are not tripping the activator that doesn't make any sense. Politicians, laws, making sense - what am I thinking?

Good we need one in Texas.

I like Missouri's "reasonable time" wording, it let's me put one foot down, look left and right, and go

You can see the traffic light in Kansas at 10 or 20 miles away.

Ummm, I've seen the "hill country" of Texas, and well, you can see a traffic light 10-20 miles away there too!!
