Good motorcycle check points are absurd. They should be promoting motorcycling instead of making it more difficult. They want every one to conserve oil by car pooling instead of the obvious............... PROMOTE MOTORCYCLE RIDERSHIP.

I hear tell that visitors to Americade at Lake George, NY are treated to annual motorcycle only inspections, with a bent toward loud pipes, and whatever else NY can write to help balance their enormous budget deficit. For years I put up with the discrimination of trucks only inspections. I would think if motorcycle only inspections go away by legislation, the precedent would be set to eliminate truck only inspections - a precedent that few states would seem interested in adopting. There's a case pending that will likely end up in The Supreme Court. http://www.ksabate8.org/Motorcycle_Inspections.phpWhat The Supremes had to say about DWI checkpoints vs. the 4th amendment. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CE7D71F3DF936A25755C0A966958260

Saddly enough, the truck discrimination will never go away. It makes me sick how our (your) government can see fit to just pick a group of citizens to oppress and thats ok with everyone else. Its not about public safety its about collecting taxes randomly and by force.

Chad it's all about revenue like you said.
During our Queensland floods we had houses and roads washed away and a lot of people lost their lives.
Yet at the same time the local police were revenue raising with speed cameras and random breath testing in the same areas. I for one thought their time would have been better served helping people in dangerous situations.

I agree with this sensible congress(person) , I've heard of no stats to substantiate any claims that motorcycles create a hazard to the public that would warrant a vehicle - specific checkpoint . This seems tantamount to a violation of the amendment against "unlawful search and siezure." And yes , Bucky and Loco P , I agree that the checkpoints for commercial trucks borders on the same . Here in Ga. we get accosted by the DOT often , and no probable cause is needed to make these stops . P.S. take the 70 K from the fed and use it for incentives for enrollment in an accredited AMA sefety course . Pass the course and get a refund of 75 bucks !! Somefin like that .

Oh I just LOVE how the D.O.T. clown pulls us over to do us a favor ( and acts like it) by giving us the "safety inspection". It is bad however to call it a "revenue generating inspection" with in earshot of said D.O.T. clown.
