Nothing "complicated" about it. It's exactly as described. And ya'll thought Mickey Mouse lived at W.D.W.

And that's why I won't change mine back to vertical, EVEN THOUGH I DO have a transponder account! BECAUSE NO LAW INFORCEMENT OFFICER KNOWS WHAT THE LAW IS NOW ! (None that I've asked EVEN KNEW it was legal WITH the transponder) SO, you GET a ticket, take the chance on something else not making the hossifer happy (maybe ANOTHER ticket), take off from work to go to court and prove your case, and the JUDGE may, or may not, agree! (EVER try to argue your case with a Florida judge, well, have ya punk!)

Are you kidding? As F'd up as Florida is it's the only thing keeping be from Bike Week or Biketoberfest or Bike-o-rama or W(e)TF they're calling it these days. One of my favorite Adam Carolla bits is the Germany or Florida game. http://www.playgermanyorflorida.com/

Really I just don't know if I can stand to ride someplace that flat. I love my mountains. A week in Irving, TX, a few years ago about drove me insane. From the 12th floor of the building where my class was I swear you could see the curvature of the earth.

One would think the Fl politicians or bureaucrats who dream up these weird enforcement campaigns would have more important concerns than picking on the two wheeled tourists?

I believe it's for toll roads, so they don't have to stop and pay at each checkpoint.

That's it! Toll road transponders. Part of the reasoning behind motorcycle tags being horz. is so cameras can more easily get quality pic's of toll runners tags, so they can receive their fines in the mail. All they REALLY want is their toll monies. As far as flat land goes, it's like track day, EVERYWHERE YOU GO! Our curves are as tight as anyone's, just NO elevation changes. (but, our jetting needs never change)

Okay, so I'm beginning to understand but the term 'transponders' implies that there's some sort of electronic device involved? I'm just trying to understand this thing 'cause you see, it's a new concept to me and I really want to understand it. So.... you what? Pay for some sort of electronic gizmo that somehow bleeps some other electronic device that you have rightfully paid in advance for passage beyond some certain point? Am I even 'warm?'
Gawd... there are times when I feel like the present hasn't even caught up to me... "What's going on out there?"

It would be great if noone showed for bike week in protest to this nonsense.

ya know I ran an ezpass toll on purpose once because I had a white wall tire around my waist like a hula hoop and wanted the picture.
Ticket never came...I guess because I have a sideways license plate.
I was pissd.

That's pretty much it Keith. You get a little plastic gizmo (box) that you keep on your vehicle somewhere, and when you pass under a overhead structure located at the toll booth locations, it automatically "transponders" you to your ultimate destination. Can you say "Beam me up Scotty!" (Well, close. Actually, you just drive straight by the toll booths without having to stop or even slow down. In Florida, if you need to pay cash, or need a printed receipt, you merge over to the booths, which are located on the sides of the main road, do your business, then merge back into the main traffic. You get a monthly statement from your "E-pass" account. Sometimes this "Monthly statement" will give you a heart murmur!)

Yea, I run them every now & then, and have NEVER received a fine in the mail. I'm told that under normal conditions, they won't send a fine unless you run three or more in a month. If you have a transponder, they "conveniently" bill you, even if your account runs out of money.

WOW! I had no idea Florida or any other place for that matter was like that. Geeze I don't like the way that sounds... it's like being scanned every time you're out on the highways.

Sounds like getting "scanned" is the least of your worries with the SS monitoring south of the Mason Dixon line. I'm all for abiding by the rules, but horizontal plates, 80 db. pipes, motorcycle only checkpoints, cut the crap.

The transponders are only for toll roads. all major cities have toll roads and "easy tags" so you don't have to stop. Florida does however have some draconian rules.

Don't worry Keith, you can't seem to make it to Arizona. Florida is no threat.

Just wait 'til "the State" mandates they be installed on all vehicles and you get a bill in the mail based on the number of miles you drive (and a fine if you violate the rules). We've got PrePass on the interstate that weighs trucks as they go by. I saw "sniffers" scanning vehicles during our SuperBowl and the ships that pass across the river from my house are scanned enroute for contraband. I can't even imagine what technology the military has.
Progressive Insurance offers a rate based on miles driven and braking patterns (you agree to install the equipment on the OBD lead). GEICO has their program that relies on similar data derived from GM's OnStar.
We're doomed - but they say it's for our own good.

Technology is a double edged sword. Eventually all vehicles could receive a bill for miles driven on state and federal highways separately. Those sniffers along the road can tell if your car's check engine light is on; the rmv could send you a letter telling you to get it fixed. The future will require some "how much is too much" consideration; dare we trust the govt. to make this decision. How are they doing so far.

"How much is too much?" IMHO its gone too far already.

Most of us are being scanned and tracked by lic. plate recognition tech. every time we drive on a public road. Can you say "Big Brother" or maybe "Big Sis"? Just because I'm paranoid does not mean it isn't really happening.
