I'm not sure who knows about the MAG Get A Grip campaign but have a look at their site here .

We've no doubt all had one of those momnets where we chew our shorts after riding over a wet manhole cover, after all, they are so 'conveniently' positioned on corners, in the middle of the road and on roundabouts aren't they?

Find your local MP here and send him or her an email.

There are companies and organisations out there producing non-slip manhole covers that could save lives.

It's not just us, paramedics and the law ride too.
Not forgetting some kid riding to school on his/her pushbike.

Composite materials are of no scrap value to the thieving scrotes that nick cast iron manhole covers.

Though it might not look like it, these numpties in 'power' work for us, get in touch with 'em.

At the very least, log onto the MAG site and 'sign' the petition.

We had the grippy man hole covers in some parts of Bristol and they do make a difference. I just wish they'd change all of them and then I wouldn't have to remember where the places are...

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

I emailed my local member of parliament back when I posted this.

I've just had my second letter from him with a copy of a letter he received from the council's Executive Director.
Basically says they are looking into the matter.

I bet they've already had some thoughts about those man made covers because only last week some thieving scrotes had a few manhole covers away for scrap value.

No doubt they're having their benefits cut under the new and woefully late "get off your lazy arse and work" rules being rolled out so they have to feed their dope habit by nicking and flogging scrap metal.

Even getting my MP on board, my local council says it's too expensive to change for manmade ... I wonder instead, can they can afford the lawsuit if someone hits a missing one 'cause some thieving scrote has has the cast iron ones away for scrap value?

Word on the street, is that they are going to make a start changing a few in Aberdeen area.

Seen one of the non slip variety at the Easter Egg run on Sunday. Definitely an improvement on the cast iron skid pans.

This is good news for me

Quote:

Staffordshire County Council is assessing composite covers for use in a project aimed specifically at creating biker friendly routes within their county. The inclusion of the covers could be the final piece in the jigsaw offering the Council the major benefits of higher consistent grip and therefore safer roads, as well as low wear coefficients meaning lower long-term maintenance budgets.

Although Staffordshire County Council always seem to forget that Burton is in thier county, apart from when it comes to demanding payment
