Last week MO passed a new law, or modified an existing law that makes it legal for motorcycles to run red lights that don't change when you sit there due to faulty sensors or cameras. Of course, there are a few stipulations. Come to a complete stop, wait a reasonable amount of time, then cross without interfering with traffic. Apparently there are six other states with this kind of law. No more trying to figure out where to put rare earth magnets or any of that stuff on your bike to trip the signals. They have done a really good job of keeping this story quiet also, I don't think they want us to know about it. A little common sense from legislators. Very uncommon.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I hate it when that happens. You either run the red light or make a right turn and then u-turn somewhere. Both are unsafe practices.

At least now when I'm going home late at night and the light just won't change I know I can legally run it and be on my way. There are a couple of them near my house that don't sense my bike.

There's one local intersection I always avoid. I don't go that way anymore.

Today I pulled up to an intersection, red light, behind a Harley. The dude was getting a little impatient and was stomping his foot on the pavement. At first, I thought he was working out a cramp until I saw he was stop in the middle of the sensor outline in the pavement. Now he turns around and motions to me pull up along side of him. As I did this he told me there needed to be more weight here. Well I guess he was right, just as I pass the grooved line and got on the magic weight switch. The light turned green. I wanted to say something, but what could I say.

That cracks me up the most, people that think it's a weight issue and there is some sort of scale in the pavement. It's actually coiled wire forming an electromagnet sort of circuit to detect metal.

I thought that for years...  In my defense, I thought this because that is what my Dad (who ironically taught electronics for a living) told me a long time ago. It was not until 4 or 5 years ago that someone set me straight.

Yes, unavailable here in Maryland. Last week, I sat waiting to make a left turn at a light that won't change - there was a city police car running radar in the church parking lot at the intersection. I sat and sat, than finally just went thru the light. He either was sleeping or didn't care. Just went thru the same light this evening, just stopped and turned.
The Maryland legislature had a bill in the works, but they ran out of time last year, so it didn't get passed. This is a good reminder for me to pressure the delegate who sponsored last years bill to resubmit.

WI just passed this a few years back too. You do have to wait 45 seconds though. But really nice at night or when you can't trip the sensor.

SC just passed this within the past year. You have to wait 120 seconds and traffic has to be reasonably clear but otherwise you're good to go. Good thing too since SCDOT doesn't seem to be able to figure out how to control the flow of traffic efficiently for ******. This is especially true for left turns. There are a few left turn arrows in the Columbia area but whatever algorithm they use to actually trigger the arrow is beyond me.

I wouldn't want to deny the practicallity of such a loophole in the law. I also have a couple of lights that I avoid. But I gotta wonder about the "slippery slopiness" of said abridgment of the law. If one gets in a wreck, "45 seconds", or whatever, isn't gonna cut it. And who counts the time, the cop after he see's you, or the pedestrian who uses his own watch. I'll bet any jerk cop is gonna slam you! I'd also like to see a "late for dinner" exception. Especially if it involved chips!

I'm still looking for my first time to get to try it, haven't had the opportunity yet. It should be fun explaining the new law to the cop who pulls me over! Especially since there is no specific time to wait, just a "reasonable amount".

Two minutes can be a looooong time when you're sitting at a red light. I generally will go much sooner if there's nobody else around.

In addition to the 120 seconds I think you have to wait through 2 cycles where the light hasn't triggered. I could be wrong, the 120 could be part of the cycles, I'm just glad we have something on the books to counterract SC traffic engineers' stupidity. I've also gone well before the 120 mark, it usually depends on the time of day and how many people are around.
