I've only put a 100 miles on my new BA. I really love the bike, but the stock pipes have to go. When I purchased the bike from the dealer, I inquired then about replacing the pipes. They recommended that the bike break in before replacing the pipes. However, When I was shopping at other dealers they had mentioned replacing the pipes before the bike leaves the show room. Who's right?

I would say the other dealers. My dealer put the long offroad pipes on for me before I collected it. He also removed the AI so that there woould be no blueing of the pipes.

Personal preference. Some folks love the stock pipes. After-market pipes only improve sound (to some) and add a little performance. Nothing is wrong with the stock pipes, but they are very quiet. My bike came with long off-roads that I had for one year. They are slightly louder than stock, but only slightly. The critical item is to remove the Air Injection (AI)immediately to avoid blue pipes.

I'd wait to hear the pipes you want to buy if the stockers are too quiet. I listened to three different brands before deciding on the Specialty Spares. It's kind of an expensive mistake if the dealer puts something on that you end up not liking, and they're not too generous with refunds.

I agree with Al concerning taking the time to hear them before you buy - If at all possible. Many of us have installed something other than what we thought we might get before replacing again. There is a difference in tone and loudness in the few various options.

Yeah, I should of clarified my reason for not liking the stock pipes. They are just too quiet for my taste. I've heard the Bub slash cuts and Epco stainless slash cuts. I'm leaning toward the Bubs. I'm looking for a deep rumble tone. From what I've read about the sound of the Specialty Spares, they may also be what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I may get a sound byte of these pipes?

You might want to find someone that already has the pipes so you can hear them in person. Head down to Chy's in May there will be plenty to choose from.

we should do this every weekend!

There are several sound bytes in the audio/vidio link, but, you're better off if you can hear in person. Be patient, Grasshopper. The sound of the whispering Triumph will bring you wisdom.

I can send you a sound bite of my SS pipes. Made it with my laptop voice recorder, so it's not primo quality, but you'll get the idea. So far, I love the sound. I rode behind Get2Bill for a few hours and listening to his pipes sold me. Give me a shout if you want the sound bite.

AL,
Yes, I would be interested in hearing your recording. I know that it's not the same as hearing it in person, but any information is going to be helpful in my decision. If you could, please send to the following address jovi_1@charter.net
Thanks

Hi Al,
ME TOO!!! I am making the Specialty Spares plunge in a few weeks. I'd love to hear them. I love the sound and look of my 99 cent stock speedmasters, but I mutilated them myself. I want some pipes from someone who knows what they are doing.
Thanks,
Dennis

The only real reason not to change pipes right off is because being able to hear how nice these engines are is a great temptation to push the bike too hard during breakin.

One good thing about the stock pipes. Being vewy vewy quiet, they are good for hunting wabbits.
