 GPS Wiring - Where's the power!?

Hey guys, long time no see!
I'm thinking of adding a GPS and wanted to check to see where you fellas are wiring it into. I assume theres an AUX plug in the helmet bucket or something under the tank? My DR650 had a plug and an aftermarket harness which was pretty simple.

I run mine right off the battery

Yeah? So do you have to power off the GPS when you turn the key off? I just though straight from the battery would keep it on continuously, no?

okay so if you take it off the cradle it wont drain the power? Thats not so bad I guess.
Still though, is there an extra power pigtail or something somewhere to wire into?
I'd much rather it shut off automatically and not have to worry about it. I guess I could add a switch to the wiring maybe?

Yeah, I leave mine wired up but with the actual gps unit off the cradle and it doesn't drain the battery at all. I used the same kind of connector from the battery that my tender uses so I can unplug the gps if I want and plug in the battery tender

Alright so I wired it up straight to the battery and kept the GPS off the bike but it drained the battery anyway..haha Must be a slight draw in my gps?
So now I'm looking to really wire this thing the right way. Any thoughts?

1) I think I got a power distribution box with a relay for mine.
2) If the draw isn't too much you might tie it into a switched circuit (like running lights)

Easiest power source is the purple wire plug under the tank that used to go to the AI pump. Assuming that is gone of course. 2 spade connects and you are in, only on when the bikes on.

Thanks mag, I just checked that plug with the meter and it's reading 12.4V with the ignition OFF.
Purple and black wired connector right? just above the carbs? Reads on the wiring diagram as #30 "Accessory Socket"
