Well, smacked another deer tonight. That's number 3 for me. Thanks to my super bright led sidlights and my projector headlight I saw her standing a ways out. I was only puttering around at 45 mph anyways on a backroad. Braked to about 20 and I thought she was gonna let me go by, but NO!, she had to make a couple of big jumps and landed right in the front right corner of the bike. The crash bar took the brunt of it and knocked her down and spun her around. She stumbled up, I kept the bike up ok, and she hobbled off the road. She's gonna have some serious bruises tommorrow! Cracked my windshield some but ok other than that. STOOPID DEER! I guess I should have totally stopped the bike and led her across the road by hand! Jeez!

you could have been completely stopped at it might have still run into you.
you are correct, they are stupid.
they are also quite tasty, but that is not the best way to harvest them.

Thanks fellas. And I DID have my deer whistle on. I still think it works, After all, the damn thing DID look right at me before it jumped. Truly, this is only the third time I've even SEEN a deer since I put it on! Before that, I saw one at least twice a month. Bottom line, the dumba

Hmmmm, keyboard just locked up on me for a minute. Anyways, like I was sayin, evidently NOTHING was gonna stop his attempted suicide. The only bummer is that I just looked up a replacement windshield for the bike and Cee Baileys doesn't make them anymore. And I darn sure aren't gonna pay Indian $500 for a REPLACEMENT!

It's a bummer about Cee Bailey but there are lots of other aftermarket windshields available for the Indians.

Rich, I'm expecting my taller and a little wider replacement windshield for my Springfield to arrive today.
It's made by Rifle Windshield Co. out of Atascadero CA and the cost is only a little over 200 bucks.

(...I'll let ya know what I think of it after fitting it to the stock Springfield windshield brackets...it's supposed to have pre-drilled holes for an easy installation)

Thanks Dwight, I'll look them up. National Cycle has one but it has a curve at the top to redirect air and I don't like that feature. I PREFER some air to reach my face.

Rich, I fitted the new Rifle windshield today and before heading out on it to play tennis in Cottonwood.
Have just returned home to Sedona.
Very very good quality piece and it fit exactly as they said, and now I'm not getting any helmet buffeting at all at 70-80mph.

Yeah, I looked them up. They have the style I want for my Vintage, although, I'll get the shorter one cause I LIKE my head to be hittin some wind. Thanks for the review Dwight.

They might be the same(hole placement that is), but I have read on the Indian forum that they're not.
Another difference would be that because the Springfield forks are less raked, the angle of the windshields of the Chief vintage/Classic models would automatically be lower in height because of the increased angle of the windshields on your model Indian. WHICH, if the pre-drilled holes on your brackets DO line up with my Springfield brackets would actually work in your favor, due to your liking yours a bit lower.
The height from the bottom of the headlight nacelle cutout to the very top of my old windshield is 15", btw.
(...let me know what ya find out...if it'll work, I'll send ya my old windshield, which is spotless and perfect btw, in the same box that Rifle sent my new windshield in)

I believe they are indeed different. I think it has to do with the different rake on the Springfield and Chief models.
