Sort of. Harley Davidson introduced an all new Softail this year and discontinued the entire Dyna line. But elements of the Dynas are now Softails such as the Street Bob, Fat Bob and Low Rider. Simply put Harley streamlined two separate model lines into one all new model but kept the old names. Before everything was different between Dynas and Softails including the engine as the Softail had a rigid mounted counterbalanced engine and the Dyna rubber mounted non-balanced. The new chassis looks well designed and the move should greatly streamline production and lower costs. Of course all of the new Softails get the new Milwaukee Eight engine.
New Softails

Fork gators and something new between the frame down tubes...

That's the second recent mistake they made. The other one was dropping the Night Train. Dropping the Sturgis a few years back was a dumb move as well.
Fork gaters and an oil cooler up front? If I wanted a BA, I'd have bought one. Oh yeah, I did didn't I?
An 8 valve V twin? Isn't that a throwback to around 1928?

I would speculate the oil cooler is a step towards water/liquid cooling of all the HD's in the next couple of model years.

Maybe they discontinued the Dyna line to replace it with a motorcycle.

From what I understand Harley fans are not happy about it. I hope it handles better and is smoother than the dynas.

Considering the primary reason for the Dyna series to begin with was because it was an easier and cheaper way to isolate the engine's vibrations from the rider than would a total engine redesign of their Big Twin engine which would include an internal balance shaft mechanism, and something of which NOW I believe is in ALL Big Twin models, well, I can clearly see the reasoning for their decision here.

(...and as far as I know, besides the whole vibration isolating thing, the only other advantage the Dynas ever had over the Softails was that the Dynas twin shock system allowed for a little more suspension travel at the rear)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Dynas put the rubber mounted big twin like the touring bikes used into a lighter simpler better handling chassis which also made it the least expensive big twin.

The old Softail's chassis didn't work with the rubber mounted engine so it had to be rigid mounted which meant it had to be counterbalanced. This drove the price of Softails up even more since their engine was unique to the line. Add in the function follows form compromises of the old Softail chassis it's weight and it's very limited lean angles and it was a whole different machine from the Dyna.

But with the new M8 engine the opportunity was there to combine the two by designing an entirely new Softail type chassis with all new geometry, less weight, far better handling and lean angles than the old Softails. So the Dyna would no longer have those advantages and combining models with names and styling form both previous platforms streamlines the product line.

Bottom line is they made a Softail that handles like a Dyna or a Dyna that looks like a Softail works both ways. And with Harley Davidson adding new lines in recent years like the Street 750 and Trikes trimming out the V-Rod and Dyna keeps overall cost reasonable.

Don't worry in 30 years you can have one in your back yard.

The oil cooler was always an accessory available from Harley Davidson and the Dyna owner could choose from 2 different types of they wanted one.

It depends on the climate, not really necessary in Wisconsin for example but might be a good idea in Arizona. The touring models have had them for many years as standard I assume because of the weight or less airflow due to the lowers and fairing.

With the recent addition of catalytic converters and of course increasing power heat has become even more of an issue than it used to be.

Personally, and based on appearance alone, I have always found the Dyna-Glide to be the most fetching of the entire line of all Harleys. Just sayin'.

Funny, I'm on Harley sites quite often, never heard a Triumph referred to as Junk. Truly I don't think any one sells junk bikes today. Well maybe some of the department store Chinese 250's still are pretty bad, but I'm talking mainstream bikes.

I am just pushing buttons, ****** for tat. He referrs to my antiques as junk and says they are in the back yard when they are actually indoors and most in a heated room. I do have a few jap bikes floating around out back but I don't care what happens to those.Fired up one of my "junks" over the weekend and went for a ride on it. I am not a fan of HD but I do like the old ones, but for every old HD I would like to have there is an old Triumph I would trade it for. My dream bike is a 1937 Speedtwin but I'll never have one.

I expect that the resale prices will start creeping up now just as they have on the Night Train. I suppose it would be a good idea to hold onto the OL's anniversary Lowrider for a while.

The Wide Glides were my favorite of course (I bought this one new in 2014) She shines pretty good.

Just so you know it's mine here's one with me in it, at Sturgis I had the rack on it instead of the Boman sissy bar.
