Ole Chuck was a one man band. His tours for many years included a small hand full of people. They booked the shows and hired local bands.
Chuck would roll into town and hour before the show, meet the band, go onto the stage where the the band basically just followed his lead. He would hand them a few hundred bucks and hit the road.
I suppose his funeral will not be an extravagant affair.

90 years is a long time, RIP Chuck Berry

He only got where he is because of Marty. He was really a showman and one of the greats that got rock and roll going.

Thanks for all the vids Billy. My favorite was Linda Ronstad and Chuck doing Back in the USA. I'm not sure he got all the credit he deserved for his part in the Rock revolution. It amazed me how he was never censored for "My Ding a Ling" Only Chuck could of gotten away with it back then.

Everybody that plays guitar owes him a debt of gratitude !! The real king of R&R , his lyrics and his playing showed a lot of people how to do it. Often we speak of his playing but look closer and check his poetry , his lyrics are some of the best ever in the world of R&R !! I'm sure everyone from Stevie to Buddy to Elvis have welcomed him into that great band in R&R heaven !! If not for him, lil Richard and Jerry lee and Buddy Holly R&R may never have been!! RIP Chuck we are very thankful you were here to show us how it's done!!! I'm sure God has a thumbs up for job well done!!!

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I saw him play at a concert in Modesto back in the 80's, what a great showman.

Here in St. Louis, Chuck Berry was literally a living legend. He played monthly up until 2015 at the Duck Room, named after him of course. We saw him play a few years ago and had a table right next to the stage. Even at his age, he was having a great time up there performing, doing his duck walk and other moves as he played. There is a bigger than life bronze statue of him about a block from my jobsite, it's quite the memorial right now.

"As I was motivatin over the hill I saw Mabelline in a Coupe de Ville" One of my all time favourite lines from a rock song and he penned a few of them. RIP
