How do you get a burnt on plastic bag off the chrome header without wrecking the header? 
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

That happened to me with my 02TBA. If I remember right I took an exact-o knife and tried to carefully scrape as much as I could away and finished with Mother' stainless steel and chrome polish. There were some minor scratches but not real noticeable. There 's no easy way to do it and it will probably never be quite like new again. Sorry.

I would start with a heat gun and a Brass scraper to get the majority off. Goof Off cleaner should dissolve the rest of the residue, when the pipe is cooled off. Then polish with the method you usually use. I use dirt cheap, Wadding Metal Polish, works just as good as the high priced spread. Careful with the Goof Off, it will soften up powdercoat and destroy paint.

Easy-Off oven cleaner is one of my old standbys. Test a small area first and NEVER use it on aluminum.

I've had melted grocery bags, jacket liners, nylon back packs, boot soles and a plethora of similar glop over the years. I've never used oven cleaner, so I can't speak on that. I have used various 'softer than metal scrapers' (wood and plastic) - each has left scratches. My best luck has been to let it cook and polish with a mild to medium chrome polish at intervals as the crap cooks off. It takes time, but, leaves no evidence.

If it's "carbonized" use a razor blade to gently scrape it off, then the finest steel wool you can find with acetone or laquer thinner then chrome polish.

Razor blade or credit card sanded sharp. Polish as mentioned, however with steel wool you may induce dissimilar metal corrosion. Even though ppl have been using 0000 Steel wool for decades,,,that don't really make it right. My go to for polish is S100 total finish restore. Use some micro fiber rags that are not all junked up, even terry towles. terry first and then microfiber as final,(an I can get way more involved if you want to hear it PM me  ) HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHROME POLISH I HAVE EVER USED  I am probably late to the party on this, but thought I would give my 2 cents, hope it all works out.

Also late to the party but in the past I've usd a product made for cleaning the bottom of a household iron. Works geat!
Just an old Hippie and I don"t know what to do.

Try a lump of sugar and a lot of water. Okay you need many lumps of sugar but anyway. Easiest way is to spray the water as you rub with the lump of sugar. Simple and it actually works.

Using sugar as an abrasive is clever, but make sure the sugar is completely rinsed off before riding the bike, it will burn and carbonize.

Glad to hear you got it cleaned. My first experience with Easy-Off was in 1973 on a CB350. I wanted the HONDA logo off the rear of the seat and that's what the salesman recommended. It seemed so odd, but it worked so well. Just remember never use it on aluminum.
