Looks like we've got a good one on the way. It will be good to see all y'all again, the regulars and the long time absent as well to spend a few days doing what we do.
Thoughts go to Larryshep, FJ, Big Jack, Will and unfortunately too many others who have made their last ride to the pole barn. Food for thought for those on the fence about whether to take the time to attend these dwindling gatherings.
We never know when we will see the people we have come to call friend or family again... if ever. Make the time.. lots of living stuff going on round here.

Getting the sickle(s)out and cleaned up... Gotta get out and rearrange the accumulation of debris in the pole barn. Got the grass cut and I need to clean out the fire pit.... almost there!
So anyways, this year rolls out something like this...

Thursday we'll leave out around 9am headed north on 19 up Blood Mountain to the end of Richard Russell Pkwy. We'll turn back north on 17 to Hiawassee and lunch. From there we'll head south on 19 to 180 or Wolf Pen Gap and come back into town on hwy 60.
Non windy nights we'll build the campfire, play music tell lies and overindulge in celebration of life... Windy nights we'll just tell lies and overindulge.

Friday we have a lot of miles to cover so we need to roll out pretty early at 8am bound for beautiful Maggie Valley North Carolina and the Wheels through time museum. A bunch of us rode up there once and it was pretty cool then... bet it's better now. Great ride anyway.. lots of twisty roads and things to look at.
We'll likely eat up town at our favorite Mexican restaurant that night and wind dependent proceeding with the overall plan of fire, music, lying and of course further overindulgence.

Saturday will be a light day.. to help offset the overindulgence, we'll leave about 10 or so for a short ride . Saturday afternoon I'm trying to get the guys I'm playing a gig with next week to come over for some practice time so with any luck we could have some live music. Sounds like a pizza night so we'll order in see where it goes. In the event of the failure of plan A we will revert to the overall plan of fire, music lies and... well you know.

Okay then.. the guys are good to go so we will be playing Saturday afternoon at 4ish..

Back story.. for those who care.. An old friend of mine(super guy) asked me recently if my band could play his sons graduation party. I told him that i didn't have a band anymore but would see what i could do. With his help I managed to interest 3 very talented guys to get together with me for the shindig.
I've played with the guitarist and the bass within the last couple of years and have played with the drummer but it has been some 20 years ago. This will be our first and only practice as a group before the gig so this oughtta interesting...

anyway... Live rock and roll show at Ga Rally 16!

BTW, FYI Wolf Pen ( Ga. 180 ) was paved a while back, so it's really nice now. All the solvents have washed out and it's smooth as silk now. Rode it Sunday. Nice.
Ga. 60 between TWO and the Rockpile is sorta rough.

Yeah mon. Sitting here in moody hollow. Java and country ham biscuits. SSS. Well maybe no shave. Getting old. Last night fell asleep before the sun did. Gonna take trip down memory lane today instead of riding up to Asheville. Then again, might just ride up to the BRP at Maggie Valley, stop at an overlook and crack open the bonnevilleamerica.com journal. Then again, I've got a comfortable rocker overlooking a babbling creek and a bottle of woodford reserve. Na. Gonna go laugh, weep, and reflect somewhere in a state where bathrooms are in contention.

Shoot, looks like Prudence is dressing up as a pack mule and carrying me on a two tank ride. Looking to park her at the pole barn this evening. Can't wait any longer seeing some good friends.

Cheers!

"Friday July 25, 2008. First just wanted to thank everyone that has added to my knowledge and help to make a dream come true as to where my bike is today.

Just glad this passed thru my hands, it's sort of like having a chance to carry the touch.

Will be headed to Mid-Ohio in the morning and to pass this along to Biker (Ed) sort of a great place along the journey.

Right on brother. Been reading and writing in the journal. Trip down memory lane that triggers one's theater of the mind.

Click link below for the journal. 4 pages. Smart phone won't allow me to sort. So go to page 4, last photo. That is the first page. And scroll 'backwards' to go forward in time. There is a 'Blackwind' effect on some pages, but his dates are true.

thanks for posting this, moe. strangest sensation while reading through it, this buildup of liquid in my eyes started to cloud my vision... honestly, it reminds me of what this forum is all about, the meeting, riding, becoming friends... good stuff

Also, you just won't ever let me live down the fact that I didn't have coffee, will you?

Cruising up hwy 68 to 411 back into Knoxville while Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs is pounding in my helmet and the heart of that big Thunderbirds twin pistons pounding just below me.
Great therapy with time to reflect on the last few days. Time well spent with friends who have become a part of my extended family. Great to see everyone, some old friends we've not seen in a few years.

2016 was yet another great Georgia Rally with "Chamber Of Commerce" type weather conditions, just beautiful, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
And as always thank you Chy and Di Adams for pulling off another rally and putting up with us old curmudgeons and the sometime salty language. See ya at the next GA Rally, is it 2017 yet !

Made it home uneventfully early this morning.

Special thanks to our awesome hosts. For those that missed it- you didn't miss much- just a few stories were told, advice was given, great roads were ridden, food and drink were shared, live music played.

It was great to see every body.

It was an epic moment, I am not sure you know how surprised she was that you agreed to her stipulation that you ride on the back. On the topic of your pending nuptials... nope.

Pulled in driveway about 430 am and am already missing my friends / family and roads that I do so enjoy in a little peacefull piece of America that is always time well spent!!! We in Florida don't do much camping ( none lol) so camping on the Etowa river with the sound of that river rushing over the rocks and base is a wonderfull way to fall asleep after an easy saddle day in the mtns or an evening of sharing stories with fellow like minded brethren ! My time in Ga always is to short and I always look forward to the next time and it never comes soon enough . This yr was super awesome, the weatherman did what he could to see to it we had all we could hope for , the roads remained clean and dry , we were able to have time together around a fire pit in our host back yard to swap lies and burn a few dogs and then to top it all off we Enjoyed a little live music for our last night together ithat was brought to us by the best rally host of all and his impromptu band! The winner of the Thunderbird will surely be enjoying that in his new home of Colorodo , that bike was built for canyon carving , have fun with that my friend!!! All in all I must say as good as any rally I have attended there and better than some. Good to see some people that we haven't in a Cple yrs and at the same time sad to think about those we will never see again !! as always , ENJOY brothers and sisters and untill we meet again, happy trails to you !!!

I've been lurking, watching this thread since January, knowing I couldn't make it again this year. Too many family graduations, and my youngest boy getting married June 3rd, and yep, we got just a little water in the house again in the Tax Day flood, albeit an immeasurable amount this time, we still had to pull baseboards and dry the exterior walls out.

So sad hearing about Will, and I was very happy to see everyone had a great time, and enjoyed fair weather on the weekend.

Both my Speedies are in great traveling shape, tire's, chains, sprockets, and I've ridden more in the last couple of months than I probably did last year.

I will see y'all again at the Ga. Rally. Can't wait until next year!
