I went to the movies tonight and watched the biggest turkey of a movie since "Heavens Gate". I hope just the complete cast (the acting was fine) was from down under and no Australian Movie company produced it, 'cause if they did, they should be nationally ashamed. It was just that bad.

Did you ever watch the original Mad Max movies with Mel Gibson?
Wondering how it would compare to the originals...

Wow, I guess it goes to show everybody sees things differently. I saw the show and got a kick out of it, hard to follow but the action was terrific and the machines were way cool.IMHO. P.S. I never saw the original.

I have a copy of and enjoy both, but the new movie is an affront to ones sensibilities. Horrible plot. It might make some money internationally, but I predict it will bomb big time here in the states. It wasn't just me, the entire audience in the theater was griping out loud during the movie. 9 year old boys might like it, but anyone more mature will be involuntarily muttering, "C'mon Man".

Haven't seen it but I want to, I always wait for movies to come out on disc.I figure any movie is worth the $2 it costs me at Redbox. The previews looked cool.

Couldn't agree more, Wade!
And add "The Best Years of Our Lives", "The Apartment", "Casablanca" and "Singin' in the Rain" and many many more to the list here in my case.
(...and btw, the reason you guys have probably noticed my presences around here lately has seemed greatly reduced is 'cause I'm now spending most of my internet time on the Turner Classic Movies forums...and yeah if you're wonderin', I'm as smartazzed over THERE as I always was around HERE...but SOMEHOW most of the folks over THERE seem to appreciate me...okay sure, there ARE a few of the "sensitive types" over there TOO who I've razzed and who seem NOT to, but overall I'm pretty damn POPULAR over there...go figure, EH?!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Dwight we know why you're popular over at TCM, because you hobnob with movie stars. I've seen photographic proof on this forum.

I haven't seen this version, Yet, but I seem to recall that I and most of my friends from then and now were in there twenties at the time the original came out. It was raw and violent for the time. There wasn't a Hope in Hades you would have dragged most parents (who We are now) out to see it.
Let the box office decide on this one and as with many sequels it doesn't fly then it won't be rated along with some of the previous mentioned films. I don't think the original would be either except for its timing and raw nature.

I haven't seen the movie ,but I find most re-makes or prequels or what ever aren't up to par. Planet of the apes for a recent instance. While technically much better, the new version wasn't a patch on old Charleton Hestons version .

There ARE a few good movies around, but only occasionally. I LOVED the original Lord of the Rings films. (The latest installments were not very good) All of the Star Wars installments. The movie "300" was very good, I watched it at least three times. It really captured "heroism" in war, even if the history wasn't real accurate. And finally, Clooneys "O Brother Where Art Thou?". Pure quality!

I loved "O Brother where art thou" raced out and bought the DVD straight away. It's a retelling of the "Iliad".

If it didn't come out so long ago that would almost be a spoiler alert. It is mentioned at the beginning but youve got to be paying attention to catch it.

My girlriend and I went and seen Mad Max this past Saturday night. We both loved it. It fell right in line with the other ones. Yes, it was over the top but that fits in with the narrative. All of the movies except for the first one are told decades later from the perspective of the people who encountered "The Road Warrior" . When I started looking at them that way, as stories and legends being passed down, I was able to appreciate them a lot more.

Yeah, the guy that was chained to the swing on the front of the semi tractor with the double necked, flame throwing guitar, all the while doing rock riffs 'tween shooting fire really did it for me. Or the scantily clad, hair, makeup perfect and not a smudge of dirt anywhere, young ladies who crawled out of that truck s secret hiding place in the belly pan, just screamed realism (sarc). I like sci-fi, fantasy, movies, Guardians of the Galaxy pulled a lot of unlikely to happen BS, but they managed to make it work, it can be done. This movie didn't make it work for me, the plot needed things that just wasn't there. I should have caught it during the Matinee price time frame, and I wouldn't be so irked. At least a lot of stuntmen got some work, there I said something positive.

No new ideas in all of hollywierd. All them creative type liberals can't come up with one original movie idea.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

There is another Australian road orientated movie that came out a few years later "The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert" The gay theme in a that one is a little more obvious.

Talking about great movies, Mr. Roberts should be added to that list. I just watched it again and we can also add Father Goose.

Saw it today with the wife, both of us enjoyed it, if you like Mad Max, there is a lot to like and not much irritating dialogue. Suffering, redemption, sacrifice, good and evil, always a great story.
