I have had this idea for a custom tank for a while but finaces didn't alow it. But my friend started taking a welding class and can do his own projects. So I gave him a extra stock tank and a CB tank so he could put the CB flip cap on my tank and smooth out the dash dip. His progress is looking good. I have some big plans now! [/URL]

I like were you are going with the tank mate. I too would love to get rid of the dash from my Speedy's tank.

I am going to have to do some bondo work but it's all good. I am going to move my tach up in to my cafe faring as well as the dumby lights it's all going to come together nicely I think.

If you are going to move the fuel hole forward, make sure you take into account how close the lower tunnel gets to the top of the tank - I didn't and it can make re-fuelling a bit "interesting" because of splashback!!

Right, I offset my fuel fill to accomidate the splash after my first attempt. It is also a good idea to have the tank sealed at a radiator shop, the welding leaves the tank prone to rusting and it is good insurance against infantesimal porosity which can cause paint defects in the long run. I have done the mod to 2 of my bikes and one friend's. I wish that I had done it all correctly on the first attempt.

I have had good luck doing tanks the old school way with plumbers acid, 50-50 solder and a old fashioned soldering copper. The metal fit up is crucial. If you test with air and soapy water, you know you sealed it. Radiator shops have the rubber plugs needed to do the pressure test, FYI. BTW, no metal warpage to fool with solder.
