The following is from a poem to honor the U.S. fallen during the Mexican War. This is inscribed above the McClellan Gate at Arlington National Cemetery and can also be found inscribed other places throughout that sacred ground.
The muffled drum's sad roll has beat
The soldier's last tattoo;
No more on Life's parade shall meet
