I doubt Dwight can be burned. Lots of people have tried on here!

And thanks Don, I appreciate the concern, however the fire is presently about 9 or 10 miles north of Sedona and up Oak Creek Canyon and appears to be burning northward up the canyon and toward Flagstaff, about 40 miles north of here.

The prevailing winds have mostly been directed up that way and pushing the flames in that direction, however this morning and before the winds started up again, the wife and I did wake up to a very sooty and smoke-filled sky, but the winds picked up about 10am and cleared the sky over Sedona, though of course not a welcomed turn-of-events for the fire fighters up there.

The saddest part of all this is, other than all the resorts and private homes up that way in harm's way, is that driving/riding up the canyon and with all the vegetation of many oaks, Juniper and Ponderosa Pines, has always been a beautiful experience, especially in Autumn, and this blaze will probably take a lot of that away for many years to come.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Glad you're ok. the fires here made people evacuate and we were only 1/2 mile outside the evac. zone. it's a strange feeling when you get a "Reverse 911" call and be told get out within 15 minutes.

It may be a selfish thought but when I viewed the news of the blaze in Oak Creek Canyon the first thing that came to mind was that the ride through the canyon is just not going to be the same.
