Over the past 32 years I have been taking long rides on 2 wheels, most times on my own, many times with a special lady (pillion) and 2 or 3 with a special friend (second bike). I have been toying with a new idea for next year, i.e. taking my dog Harry for a long ride. He is a tad too big for a pillion rig so I have been considering a sidecar. Any experience or ideas? May I introduce Harry ...

 Not mine, I bought the wheels off this back in 2007 with the front forks etc etc and put them on my 04 america. The guy who I bought them off said it was his mothers...

Yeah, they are cool!
I used to see this one guy at the Rock Store(the famous roadhouse along Mulholland Hwy in the SoCal mountains) on Sundays, and who had a very nicely restored mid-60s BMW R60/2 "Boxer" equipped with a Steib sidecar, and his passenger was always his dog Olivia the Boxer.
He even had a little plaque made that he mounted right in front of where she sat and it read:
"Hi, I'm Olivia.
Please pet me!"

I had a co-worker once who had a small piece of carpet attached to the tank of his Sportster and had his cat trained to ride. I like cats, but that was not cool.

Btw Thanassis, the pic of the hack that Ray posted would be exactly what you should be looking for. The Earles-type front end being especially warranted, because as you might know, that type of front end makes hacks much more stable when braking because of their inherent anti-dive properties.

I wanted to take my first pitbull for a ride in the side car but I didn't get it on the BMW before she passed. loved that dog, miss her still.

Yes, they do tend to get under your skin. I have been training young Harry (1 and 1/2 years old) and preparing him with all my bad habits (late nights, too many coffees .... but not smoking, YET) but above all obedience, especially in company. If I am to take him with me on a long journey, I can't have him disturbing other people. He is a cross between a Border Collie and a German Pointer (which makes him bigger than a normal BC)... extremely intelligent and his training progress is excellent.
I was looking at the Ural range. Apparently they are coming out with EFI for 2014. Imagine 2-wheel drive AND reverse? Those things will go anywhere.

There is one for sale on Craigslist right now in Canandaigua, which is just down the road from me. Let me know if you want me to talk to the guy and get some info on where he purchased it, what he paid, cost to install etc. 2009 America with SidecarThe phone number is in the ad, so you could also call him if you don't mind the cost of the long distance call.

While I get the obvious benefit, I don't want to go that far in terms of modifications.

We have a guy around here that takes his Weimaraner around in the Ural sidehack. Very cool! I was never so hot on sidecars - until I saw what a Ural can do off-road. Those things are super-capable on snow, dirt, mud and even rocks. We may pick one up in the future as an alternative to a Tiger 800. Good luck Thanassis!

DMC Sidecars has sidecars and mountaing brackets for a number of Triumph Models- http://www.dmcsidecars.com/Made in the USA. Cozy and Inder are two other models I've seen mounted on Triumphs- http://www.cyclesidecar.com/I've seen Cozy and Inder available internationally. Peace, Paula

Never seen one in action but I imagine with the side car wheel also being powered by the engine would make for some incredible traction.

Thanks Paula! I started researching the idea and am already talking to Jay at DMC about a specific model and all it's features. I have also seen the Cozy rigs, apparently they are made in India.
I am in no hurry, so will continue investigating but at the moment I am leaning towards the Ural. I like the heritage and the fact it's purpose-built. I also kinda like the 2-wheel drive and reverse gear features too.

I was looking at the Ural site. They have a ton of models from $10K to $14k. And something else that's kind of funny and also sad. There are 2 Ural dealerships in OK but no Triumph dealers.

We have two Triumph dealers and only one Ural dealer in St. Louis. And my buddy is a Royal Enfield dealer too. I have no idea if there is a Suzuki dealer though.

That's weird. I looked on the dealer locator and no Suzuki dealers in St.Louis but we have two of them in Tulsa/BA. Dave, I'll trade you one Suzuki dealer for one Triumph.

I like a lot of things about the Ural, but I wonder about the EFI on the 2014's. Most of the other parts are simple enough to be fixed almost anywhere. Would the EFI be reliable out there when there's nobody else around?
