I think they are using the term "bobber" a bit loosely for either of them. The dude is right, the speedy does not fit in with the comparison.

Actually, other than the forward foot peg location on the Speedies and that everything isn't blacked out on it like on the Yamaha, I think the Speedy actually DOES fit into this much too abbreviated and so-called "comparison test" here.

Could not the present generation of Speedies be defined as "Bobberize Americas", what with their cut down fenders?

And, haven't we seen many a "comparison test" done in the past between this Triumph model and the Sportsters?

(...I think that Brit was over-emphasizing the chrome on the Triumph, if you ask me)

The guy who did the review is a putz, plain and simple. He had an agenda and immediately discounted the Triumph in a lame manner. As for the head to head with the HD and Yamaha, its not a surprise the HD didn't measure up, the Yamaha is a clearly better bike.

Yeah, MAYBE Todd, but if one purchases the Yamaha, can they STILL legitimately dress like a pirate and "bond" with as many other like-minded individuals as they could if they would've purchased the H-D INSTEAD???

(...nope, I don't think so, dude!)

Not a good comparison test at all. No stats. no opinions from the other riders. They went into it with a scripted goal about the yammerhammer and accomplished it. The Speedmaster may not fit into their "custom bobber" test, because it's a 100 times better than either of the other two.

Well, the Yamaha has more torque at 3000 RPM.

In performance its faster with a more conventional seating position. It also has a belt. Other than the sport bike folks people want belts. They are quiet and they work. And lets be honest. Triumph 865s can't stretch one.

With the little time he had they said its a better performer. At least he made an excuse for Triumph being a pegs forward cruiser because its way slower.

Triumph needs to heat the bikes up or push the displacement up. I thinks its about 8 years now we have been talking that. Its starting to catch up to them. Keep the style and put some muscle under them.

This is a pretty fair assessment by Ron, and probably the reviewer too.

The BA and Speedy are great middleweight or lightweight (depending on your point of view) cruisers. But it's a competitve market, and the competition is not resting on its laurels. Neither should Triumph.

Not true, myself and many people I know wouldn't trade a chain for anything.Try and fix a belt in the middle of nowhere and ride home.

While I agree with most everything you've just said here Ron, unless I've somehow misunderstood your point, I have to question your comment that I placed into bold lettering.

How could the Yamaha's claimed 46bhp and 53ft-lb of torque be "way faster" than a Speedmaster's claimed 55bhp and 53ft-lb of torque?

Look at its 1/4 mile times.

Speedmaster 1/4 time

I think the 15 is high most on the Rat say they are getting 14.5. Over .5 seconds is a big performance difference.

But these guys rode the stock bikes all day. They agreed the Yamaha was faster than both of the other bikes. Its not a bash, its just true.

Dog, I know you like chains. I don't mind them either. The cruiser public wants belts or shafts. That is just where it is in the marketplace. Triumph knows that, no chains on the Thunderbird right?
