Yeah, the only thing dual discs do is dissapate heat, the stopping power is unchanged. Most custom bikes use single, low side mounted brakes to show off the beautiful front wheel. Similarly people like to do suspension changes and maybe triumph said, "why have a nice set of shocks on the shelf after our customer changes ride height so we'll just put these extra crappy ones on". Or maybe it's something else. If it's to keep production costs down, I'm Okay with that because it's hard to find more bang for your buck and impossible when you consider the "cool" factor.

True but not a valid argument since the single disc would lock the old tire too. I think it is more about keeping them cool.

Maybe they just went cheap and saved the money.

BINGO! Remember, Triumph's air-cooled Twins have always been "built to a cost". Why else would they have also bolted the cheapest shocks they could source onto these models all these years?!

Triumph still gives the rider a great bang-for-the-buck. The Honda cruisers have fake chrome plated plastic engine covers that look (and are) damn cheap. Triumph's engine parts are real chrome or painted functioning parts not clip-on plastic covers.

I suppose the America/Speedmasters are cruisers that don't really need dual front brakes and besides single brakes are less expensive to replace pads, less un-sprung weight, easier to clean the wheel etc.

By the way it's like Triumph puts fork covers and chrome on the America so there's no money left over for a tachometer like the Speedmaster gets.
