 Clutch adjustment question.

Hey there, I'm here doing my regular once a decade post,lol.
I duly looked thru 20 pages of tech posts, tried the search engine, (what's the secret to making that work?), but I still can't find how much freeplay I should have at the clutch lever.
I got on the throttle hard on the freeway and noticed a bit of slip, ok, more than a bit. Any body know off the top of their head? Clutch only has 9K. I rarely ride hard so it surprised me. Thanks!

2 to 3 mm is the spec... that being the space between the lever and the housing.
I like about a half inch of travel personally but as long as you have some free play you should be okay.

good measure is about the width of a nickle! maybe slightly more.

Don't just look at the lever...watch what happens to the clutch actuation arm at the other end of the cable at the motor when you pull the lever...if the arm moves immediately when the lever is pulled then there is insufficient play regardless of how much "free play" movement there is at the lever.

Wow, you guys are fast!
I have a son that has decided he wants to ride, but he's had two auto accidents, and three injuries from different sports in just a year. I'm going to get the bike adjusted right, put tires on it, sell it, and give up riding so I don't contribute to his accident prone-ness. You can't save them from themselves, but I sure don't have to make it easier for him.

Clutch slipping with low mileage....hmmmm. What oil have you been using? Is it motorcycle specific?
