Cop asked me why I was gong so fast, said i was just trying to get out of the way, asked for license, insurance, reg. all the normal asked if i had a ticket before, told him about my incident in SD leaving base. Ran my DL came back and said "not gonna give you a ticket cause I ride too and I know how these dumb ass cagers can be, just slow down a little"

Sounds like a nice guy. Every once in a while you run into one of these.

Hey! Anybody around here know if there's some method of canonizing cops for Sainthood who not only occasionally show a little compassion for us motorcyclists, but also, and more importantly, the understanding of our plight out there on the roads with all the cagers around us and what we sometimes must do to just stay alive among them? (...nice story here, Matt!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

It's your lucky day. Always good to hear a 'reasonable cop' story. I'm with Dwight. Maybe we can have a 'Good Cop' website. Of course, I'm not sure how they would like being on it. A few years back I was in a line of traffic, at least a dozen cars, on my 650 'Tempter' (go look that one up), on a mountain road outside Nederland, Colorado. Over a period of 5 minutes, or so, a State Trooper passed four cars until he was behind me. He hit his lights and gave me a speeding ticket. All I can figure is a motorcycle killed his cat that morning (for some reason I always think of troopers as cat people). It was not my lucky day.

Couldn't get that link to work but the statement in quotes is very disturbing. That guy murdered a motorcyclist.

Hey Leithal, Just today I got pulled over (Point B) doing 72 in a 45 mph zone (Point A). Officer, " Do you have any weapons. Me, "No Sir." leo, "Are you in a hurry"? Me, "No Sir. Was I speeding?" leo, "Yes, I clocked you back at the Auto parts store (right across the street form the Sheriff's office). Why where you speeding?" Me, " Officer, I was getting in some clean air is all." leo, " Well I ride too and i can understand the situation. May I see your driver's license please" I hand him my license and he walks back to the car, turns around halfway there and ask if the bike is registered in my name. Yes Sir, would you like the registration? Leo,"No it will come up when I run your license" After he gets back to his SUV, I holler back at him, " May I get a hat out of my saddle bag?" Okay he says. Dangit. Just how many points is 27mph over the speed limit? Lynn is going to kill me. Well the officer exits his SUV rather quickly as I'm thinking there is no way he already wrote me up that quickly. As he approaches me he says Mr. Dressler. Yes Sir? He says I should try to keep the speed down and hands me back my license. Whew.. So Leithal, a big thankyou to you for your excuse, that I used, today!

Yesterday morning I rounded a curve out on a country road shortly after sunup and there was a sheriff's deputy sitting there "taking pictures." I looked down at the speedo and it read 53 MPH. The posted speed limit was 35, but he didn't wave me over. A second or two later I gave him a short beep on the horn and a nod as I passed in front of his car.
That was the first time in the past 4 years that I've seen a radar trap at that location, but in the future I'll be mindful of it in the event that my luck might run out.

I had a cop tell me once, they typically don't mess with motorcycle unless they're screwing up big.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Yeah, while I was in the Navy stationed @ North Island we had a mandatory safety course with a state MC cop. He said the same thing, but it also varies officer to officer and location. It was leaving that very said base that i got my first ticket for "rolling" thru a stop sign by... get this a friggen MC cop, who didnt even own a bike.

Kill a cop, get the needle. Cop gets $hitfaced, on the job, crashes his 5th cruiser, and kills someone sitting in traffic. Department supervisor intentionally mishandles the evidence, and a year later he's still walking the streets. I bet the Indy cops complain they don't get enough respect.
