Even thou the leaves haven’t turned yet, Skyline Drive is calling. We are headed out to Skyline Drive on Saturday 9/3. We will meet up at Clinton Cycles that morning and leave from there. I’ll post the meet time shortly. If you can’t make it to Clinton we also stop in Warrenton on the way to Rt 211 to hook up with the VA guys. Even thou the leaves haven’t started to change, it’s still a beautiful ride. Hope you can join us...

Gene, I'll absolutely try and make it. You going to stop at the Sheetz in Warrenton as usual?

Yep. I couldn't remember if that was a Sheetz or a Shell station, but yes we will be stopping there to hook up with the VA guy's and top off the tanks before heading up the mountain. I figure we should be there about 10ish....

I'm right up the road from warrenton and would love to go as well. I'll work the kid-sked and confirm I can make it.

It'd be great to meet some folks from here in person!

We will meet up at Clinton Cycles that morning at 8:00 and will roll by 8:30. We will head to Warrenton to pick up the Virginia guys at the Sheetz station. We should be out that way around 10ish. Will also hit the Brookside Inn on 211 for a bite to eat before getting on Skyline. If you’ve never been out that way, it’s really a pretty ride. We will head south on Skyline and jump off at Rt 33. Hope you can make it….

If I still lived up that way I'd be riding with you guys, but I haven't been on 29-211 since the early 70s. Great scenery for sure!

Just checked the long range forecast. A slight chance of some isolated rain with temps in the mid 80's. Sounds like a nice day for a ride.....

Take the business route into Warrenton. At the first light you come to there's a Chevy dealership and a Sheetz gas station. We meet up at the Sheetz for the VA guy's. Should be there around 10ish Saturday morning....

Your right. When we head out Rt 211 to Skyline, that has got some of the most scenic views in the area. Plus the twistees headed up the mountain are pretty fun....

Also, if you’ve never ridden Skyline Drive, once you get up on the mountain it’s usually at least 10 degrees cooler so dress accordingly…..

Just an FYI for those who have not ridden on the "Drive" before. The toll for motorcycles is $10.

There's a toll? How long have they been doing that!

If you want to map it the address is 600 Blackwell Road, Warrenton, VA 20186. Baring a crisis at work, I'll be there by about 0930.

Toll, fee or whatever you want to call it they've been charging it for a while. It's been getting more expensive like everything else. When the group started to ride up on the drive it was $5. Now it's $10. However you can save money if you ride Skyline a lot. You can buy a yearly pass for $30 and ride as many times as you want.

MD and Old Dominion boys will meet up at the Sheetz in Warrenton (600 Blackwell Road, Warrenton, VA) at 10am on Saturday. Ride 211 out over Thornton Gap to lunch at the Brookside Restaurant. Then back up the mountain to Skyline Drive. Ride south on Skyling to 33 and jump off there (or not). Then 33 to 29 (north) back towards home.

Hope you can make it. Weather still looks like it will cooperate. Still just a slight chance for isolated showers. The only change was in the temp’s. They originally were calling for low to mid 80’s, now it’s the low nineties. Another reason to go riding in the cool mountain air…

Also for those who haven’t ridden with us, this is a nice leisurely paced ride through the mountains. Great views. We also stop a few times on the overlooks on Skyline so you can check out the scenery and take some photo’s…

I can never tell with these rides. We don't get a lot of conformations ahead of time and never know until you see who gets their a** out of bed to go riding. We’ve had group rides with as few as 6 and as many as 20+. Hard to say but everyone usually has an enjoyable ride…

The ride turned out ok. 6 of us made it and I was surprised that Robert (Larkfarms) rode all the way from Delaware Saturday morning to hook up with us at Clinton. The other surprise was Warren (AngusPT) who rode up from the Southwestern part of VA near N.C. to hook up with us in Warrenton. It was good to see Robert again and was nice to meet Warren. Anyway it was a cool and cloudy start, but we never ran into any rain at all. Headed over and had lunch at the Brookside near Luray then back up the mountain and onto Skyline. The first part of Skyline was cloaked in clouds and at times was pretty hard to see. We waited it out at a lounge and tossed down a few quick ones. When we finally headed back out it the clouds were starting to clear out and the rest of the ride was pretty clear. All in all it was another good ride. Hopefully more can join us next time…
