Yamaha 400 two cylinder that looked like it wanted to be a Triumph and a '74 74" Super Glide that I was never sure was going to get me back home, Had to reattach or clean something almost every trip, Nice at highway speeds in a straight line, don't miss either of them at all, my America has been and is the best.

My first motorcycle after school was a 250cc Puch-Daimler- Stephyr. This thing was a beast-looked like a early BMW and built like a Tiger Tank. Weighed nearly as much as a 650 Trunpy. Had a split single two stroke enginei.e. one cyl fired a split second after the first-no oil mixing required and was fitted with oil pump-came with tool kit including a grease gun- If you mucked about with the timing the engine would run backwards as I found out. Needless to say it was not the fastest 250 around but it would surely have bikers scratching their heads nowadays. The build quality was top notch and a credit to the german manufacturers. Top speed was approx 70mph but would chug along at 50mph no sweat. Of all the bikes I have owned this would have been the weirdest!

My 1980 GS850G Suzuki. Named Black Angus. comfortable, and at 650lbs wet, not too hard to pick up. It was the best for a long trip. If I got another one, I would add a little more power, though.(not hard to do)

That's 3 of us that had an early 70s Yamaha 360. I loved mine, they were the same as the 400 but shorter stroke. Loads of TQ, I always have my eyes open for one. I would still have mine but it was stolen. Kind of funny I waqs working on the engine and lived in a 3rd story room at the time. So I had assembled the cases and stuck them in the frame. They stole a bike with empty engine cases! By the way mine was green. had the 1977 100cc version at one time too, That was the year they put the 100cc engine in a small frame not much bigger than the DT80 , that was a fun bike too.

Mine was the burnt orange color, I bought it with 600 miles on it when I was 14 years old for $500. It was in mint condition and I put over a thousand miles on it riding on roads all over my stomping grounds before I ever got a drivers license. I used to get chased by the cops quite often but never got caught. But there was that one time that I drug a cop up the road for a piece before I went down with the bike when I hit a wet muddy spot on the road where construction work was being done. I still managed to get away I was pretty nervous for a couple weeks and I didn't ride it for about a month after that incident and I quit wearing the jean jacket with Yamaha wings on the back too. He possibly still might have a set of keys for it that he ripped out of the ignition. Good thing the statute of limititations has long run out!

I did the same stuff, also paid $500 with about 1,000 miles on mine. I rode mine until I wore it out though. I did get caught once. I found an unlocked gas pump and didn't check, I had pumped my tank full of diesel. It ran but when I passed a cop and went to nail it it just died and wouldn't restart. I was about 100' from the railroad tracks too.

My list is shorter:
1977 Suzuki GS750 1986 Honda Rebel 450 2008 V Star 250 2008 Triumph America
But I still have them all except the Rebel, though the Suzuki hasn't run since the mid to late 80s - one of these days I am going to have to get that out of my sister's garage.

Steve, it was more like the one PersonalTriumph had, not quite exact but similar! I crashed that stupid thing more than ANY other motorcycle I had owned including riding Trials! I learned many valuable lessons; Never use your front brakes on wet cobble stone..not good. Never do wheelies on wet cobble stone. Not a good idea to drink and drive while doing anything on wet cobble stone, leads to bad choices, (see point one and two)

If we go that far back I had a 1946? Allstate moped/ Made the mistake of tossing that in the scrap heap in my teens. And my first bike was a Morini Super America. Cool mini bike, kick start and everything. Looked a lot like this but not exactly. Couldn't find anything even close to my Super America.

My first was a Sears single speed, purple with hard rubber tires. Then a Schwinn Stingray, yellow with a 5 spd stick shift. Loved that one and wish I still had it.

No, I wrecked that bicycle the night before. Really, I wrecked myself more than the bike. We got it from Sears. It was a sweetass Bicentennial Edition Schwinn. Had to ride it around the block in the dark the night we brought it home. That's when I crashed.

Yep, corner of Isis Ave and 123rd place, although I don't think it was '79, probably more like '75-76, just before we moved to El Toro in the OC. I don't know if Del Aire is a suburb of Hawthorne or what.

A few Montgomery Wards, but nobody else had a Sears? I found a Sears 106, like my first, at Greybeards Cycle Barn http://graybeards.yolasite.com/. One day I'll ride down there and relive my days of flip-flops & baggies riding. Invincible youth, you know.

It may have been a Huffy. Ya know it just occurred to me that wrecking that bicycle within hours of obtaining it could account for my dislike of ape hangers...

My 1955 T110 650cc,my first road bike.I was 17yrs old when I got it and the bike was 16.I'd restore it this time, not build a custom. And,my 1976 Bonneville 750cc too. If I could have them back,I'd still keep the America though. It's the best I've owned.

Watch it friar!! I rode a jc higgens, then moved too a parts bike, i built i painted pink and white.[pink was some paint my ma used to paint a dresser and it was free] with the bars upside down to be kool. now that i think of it, i moved down!!! not up. the higgens was brand new 1954 cost was $54.00 as i remember.I Liked the hot rod bike so i saved the new one for clear days. Or do you guys mean m/c's just went back and looked; i had 5 cushman eagles. 3 pacemakers 1 road king 5 mustang m/c 3 4-speeds , two 3 speeds. 70 BSA thunderbolt 70 triumph bonneville 2004 america 2003 honda shadow ACE which really rides the best of the bunch. All of them restored..... just wanted nice stuff to ride.Is that so bad? OOOOOOHHHH i forgot 4 mini bikes one was a ruttman chopper. one mini bike, one more 3 wheel chopper mini bike, i took my boys ridin on in the snow. great fun.I had two rupp roadsters one was a 70 that is new still in my basement. the other i put ape hangers on it , so my wife could ride without hurting her back, that one was a hundred years ago.To top it all off i built a 2 go-carts, First one i spent more time repairing than i did riding, I Got so mad at it i tore it all apart and stuffed it into the trash barrell. I remember my dad laughing as i took it apart.and stuffed it in that barrel. Sorry bout the rant............i was on a roll.this stuff really oils up the ole memory thanks for listening though bob s
