A whole summer without riding... But it was worth it! To make a long story short: Since Im not a mechanic I made many misstakes, but in the end thoes misstakes only affected the time it took to finish. I hired a pro to make the welding. Here are some pictures from the projects: Looking good...  Was a bit worried when the engine didnt fit the frame any more!!!!  There is a swedish saying that goes "luck favours the brave". I fixed the problem, now lets see if the frame explodes when winter comes...

Almost done now, but from some assessories. The bike just passed the tests that makes it legal to drive on swedish roads.

Very cool.I have wated to do something similar with a 2nd bike and a springer or girder front end.

So whats it like to ride?
Does it have front end flop at low speeds?
How fast have you had it now, and is it stable at high speeds?
How much longer are your front tubes?
and finally, how much flex is there in the front end when it starts bouncing?

Sven, I couldn't go a summer without riding, but that is hot. Nice job! What a cool ride. Never seen one of these bikes as a chopper.

Very cool, definitely post a ride video. We've never quite seen an America/speedy like this over here. You guys do love those long bikes!
I'd swap out that headlight for something smaller and do something different with the turn signals. Good winter work now that you completed the heavy lifting.

I'll bet it rides and handles fine. It has raked trees to get the trail back, (hard to imagine they didn't do their homework), probably just a bit tough in the parking lots. I'd be happy to make that concession.

Not like the ones I chopped back in the day when all I did was set the bike up on crates so it sat the way I wanted it to with the bearing head cut off. Then set it up with the front end in place tack weld it then take it apart and weld it all together. Never measured anything. They always seemed to ride fine.

The forks are just +8, that makes it a bit too low for some tastes. I have to be careful at speed bumps and sharp turns since the chocks are lowered too. Unfortunately we have ice on the roads here so I cant try it out properly. Have just taken it around the block.
It handles great though. It takes a little bit more force to turn it in low speed, but nothing that´s bothering driving in the city. At higher speed it´s steady as a rock. Have not taken it to any great speed yet, due to the wether. The suspension is the only downside. Its hard, no other way to say it without lying. I need a whole season to say wether its too hard or not. There is a swedish organisation called SFRO (swedish vehicle builders organisation) that´s involved in making these bikes legal. One of their test driver had to test it. The first time he went air borne because of to little flex in the forks. Now I have some lighter springs in the tubes to start the motion, before the other springs worke with the rest of the force. Works quite well if you ask me. But then again, I have not hit a pot hole in the road yet.

Cool. I did some maths with angles, else it wouldnt have been legal here.

I really like how it sits level, not jacked up towards the front of the frame. Very well done. I would have liked to see to see that test rider!

A recent "The Horse" magazine covered a Swedish long-bike event and described the process to get these choppers certified for road use. Pretty interesting that this is that much interest in long bikes. "If it ain't long - it's wrong!"

Yea. It has a rake of 47 plus 5 in the trees, ending up at 52.

Yes, that has striked me too. The guy from SFRO told me that there was a professor at the "Royal tecnical university" that took an interest in the maths and calculations to get these bikes steady and smooth steering. He had his students do a lot of tests and measurments. If I got it right he then made recommendations to thoes in charge of the road safety. Long forks of a sertan standard became both manuverable and legal. Perhaps that is a part of the explanation...

Thanks. Yes, its a lot different. I had never taken a ride on a long fork before. I just knew I wanted one badly. I will practice manuvering it on safe places before I encounter any hectic traffic.

Thanks Sven, I was just curious myself, hence all the questions, I like it, but then whats not to like (its a Triumph) 
you could try a fork brace it may stop a little flex when bouncing, and you might be able to go to even liter guage springs to give it a little travel then, over all 10/10 I like it

I don't know about a 52 deg. rake but I've got a 4.5 deg. raked tree for my America. I sent my tree to a co. in Canada and they raked it for me. It give's power steering to a bike with a sidecar (no pulling).Rudy

Hi,
Bought mine after someone else had had it raked to 38. Do you find that the rake would have been a little better with a stretch in the backbone?
I found the additional rake pushed the bars back too close to be comfortable and makes me sit further back on the seat.
If so, how did you get around this place.

The bikes I was talking about chopping I really chopped, not just the steering head. I did a hard tail on most. The ones I didn't do that too I just played with bars and risers until I got what I wanted or the person I was doing it for wanted.
