Hi everyone, long time member, but haven't posted in awhile.
Just got back from a 3-1/2 hour ride back from above Bodega Bay crusing in the wind. What I didn't hear through the wind noise and traffic was the grinding noise when I put on the back brake. (I use both). Didn't I read something here about something going on with original rear brakes?
I have an '06 Speedy. I grooved the ****** out of the gearshift side of the rotor.
Is this gonna require selling my firstborn? Thanks.

Just replaced the (rear rotor,$140.47) and (pads,$32.50) on AmyLees TBA. We ordered her brakes (EBC) through www.fasteddysports.com, she has the center stand, so was a matter of removing the bolts to the disc and pad caliper. Pulled out the axle and removed the disc, install in reverse fashion, similarly to a car. Any questions on details give me a PM. Bob, Central Cal

I like the brake pads I've been getting from Ebay for $9. I have noticed it would be easy to drag the back brake by your foot hitting the pedal while at rest causeing them to wear fast. Mine is adjusted so that won't happen but I could see it happening. Not saying that's the case but worth a look before it happens again.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will be checking it out today, calling for parts etc. I'll check the wait for parts with the price locally before I figure where to purchase.
I just purchased the Progressive 812's off Ebay yesterday, so I may finally be changing this ride from bone stock.
Dog, I'll check the adjustment for sure.
Habu, FastEddy will definitely be checked out. No center stand, but I'm determined to do this myself. I've never even used water on this bike, or gotten a scratch anywhere, so you can guess I'll be a little more careful than a shop.

My rear brake pads typically only last 6000-7000 miles. The front ones last over twice that. Guess I'm a rear braker.

Just got a quote for $350. parts and labor. Sound fair? I'm lazy this week. The guy said $72 for labor....

Grab a brewski, a handful of tools and get 'er done for about 1/2 that. In the meantime you've learned something and saved a bunch of bux for more brewskis. At the end of the day you've been lazy (I mean you weren't out cutting the grass or trimming the hedge, right?) and had an intimate time with your bike.

Apparently when riding a bike like ours, it is recommended we use 60/40 split in favour of the rear due to the fact most of the weight is closer to the rear, and heavy front braking apparently unloads the weight at the front causing the front end to become light.

Just in case you guys think you are being flogged on price. Just got quote from Triumph Aust for a set of front pads at $160 and the rear set is $145.oo. Got a set off e-bay aftermarket for 42.00 for both including freight. Not fitted yet but that is over the top!!!!!

Thanks again for the replies. My bike has to sit for a couple of weeks. (Naturally the weather is nice). My ex, that couldn't save a dime if it fell in a crack, just squeezed me to replace tires are her car. (Gotta keep the kids safe). I'll post when I'm rolling.

I don't know about the overall recommendation but for sure braking transfers weight TO the front wheel, it can't cause it to be light.

Yes, I'm confused since at least 60% of a bikes stopping efficiency comes from the front brake. The same probably holds true for autos. I never use my rear brake except in emergencies. total lock ups.
