Not bad at all.
Triumph Sets Price for 2010 Thunderbird Press Release 04/16/2009
Dealers Are Accepting Special Orders for the New Big Twin Cruiser.
Triumph has set the price for its new Thunderbird big twin cruiser at $12,499 USD. Dealers throughout North America are accepting deposits for the first wave of Thunderbirds, which are scheduled to arrive on North American shores this summer.
"We have received a lot of fantastic feedback from motorcyclists who have seen the new Thunderbird online and at Daytona Bike Week," said Jim Callahan, North American Marketing Manager for Triumph Motorcycles. "Triumph is dedicated to providing an outstanding motorcycling experience, so we are thrilled to make this amazing new motorcycle available at a very competitive price point."
The Triumph Thunderbird has been designed from the ground up to feature an innovative 1,600cc parallel twin engine, six-speed transmission and 200mm rear tire. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is available for an additional $800 USD. The Thunderbird will be easily customized to meet each rider's own styling tastes and riding preferences with a long list of Genuine Triumph Accessories that include a long haul touring seat, windshield, passenger back rest, luggage rack and leather saddle bags.
The new bike's namesake landed on North American shores in 1950 and received rave reviews from motorcyclists for its styling, agility and speed and later appeared alongside Marlon Brando in the blockbuster movie "The Wild One." The new Thunderbird is a radical departure from its ancestor, but promises to live up to its legacy.
To reserve a new Thunderbird, customers should visit their local Triumph dealer to place a deposit and complete a Reservation Form. Once Triumph North America receives the Reservation Form, a conformational email will be sent to the dealer and customer with the expected month of delivery. As shipments are received from the factory, motorcycles will be sent to the dealers for customers in the order that the reservations were received. The special order program will run until July 1, 2009.

That's not too bad(still better value than a Harley) Not much more HP's for 4K's more, epecially when you factor the extra wieght. On the other hand there are some nice features on the T-Bird that you can't get on the Bonnies. The T-Bird may be a bike I'll get down the road but there is no hurry to trade in my Speedy.

Where more HP pays off - weight or no weight - is high-speed acceleration. At highway speeds and above, the additional HP overcomes air resistance, and acceleration is much stronger than bikes with smaller motors, even if they're substantially lighter. Taken to extremes, this is why all the 'Vettes I ever built (models between '63 and '74) could walk away from any motorcycle of the day at speed.

170 more pounds with only 26 more HP's? I don't think so. If you had to have more power your better off big boring, then tuning any of the Bonnies, and you have a lighter bike in the bargain. What I am trying to point out is the futile argument of bigger is better, and the T-Bird is no exception to this rule. Also the Americas and the Speedmaster’s dimensions are bigger than the T-Birds. So What I saying is that if you want more size and power big bore an America or Speedmaster. If you want the impression of a bigger bike get a Thunderbird. Don’t get me wrong I do think they’re good looking machines and I do like a few of the extra features that you can’t get on an America or Speedmaster. So in the future I could see myself on a Triumph Thunderbird.

Duh! What are you talk'in, 400-500+ hp ? Better walk away (probably slightly) from the 40-80 hp bikes of the sixties-early seventies!
I'd bet those vettes wouldn't walk away from my 500 lb. (=/-), 74 bhp 1972 H2 from 80-130+ mph!
And you may see me tonight

Don't remember racing against many 2-strokes, but I used to slaughter the 900 Kawas (Z1). From a standing start, they'd pull about 5-6' ahead, then I'd catch em by the time we hit 20 mph or so. By triple digits, they'd be several car lengths behind and gettin' smaller in the mirror. Honda 750s, Triumphs (sorry), Nortons, etc. wouldn't even get me off the line. Top end in the BB Vettes I built was always well above 150 mph. Used to go huntin' for whaletail Porches, tell 'em I was runnin' a 350 when they caught up at the next light. Dang, I could do that all night for $5 worth of gas too. Incidentally, these weren't radical 1/4 milers with tunnel rams and 5.33 rear ends. My approach was to use a 454, build it for torque and gear it tall (by racing standards), usually 3.70. Most of these had automatics too, to save shift time. That was my formula for the street. I only visited the dyno twice, but both times exceeded 500 ft/lbs. That's not enough to win every race, but it'll win most.

I had a Suzuki GT550 triple 2 stroke, wasn't much on the road at the time that could touch it and it was bone stock except for seat and exhaust. Still have the GT750 triple out in my shed.
