Rob, you seem to miss the point.
There are no laws specific to: Leaning over the seat yelling at kids. Messing with a CD. Adjusting your volume on the radio. Putting on makeup. Petting your dog. Eating a sandwich. -----------------
There are very effective laws that already cover it. Inattentive driving, careless driving, improper lane change, impeding traffic. Whatever.
Long before you make a law banning cells you should pass a law banning consumption of food or beverage while driving.
When passed some industrious cops will set up a sting in a traffic jamb. One spotter will tell the others of the dozens of people on the phones in the stopped traffic jamb telling people they will be late. Dozens of tickets will be written generating revenue for the city.
Thank goodness! We ran a sting and kept them all safe today.
How bout enforce the laws we have first before we make new ones.
This is a circular conversation with no resolution as noted before.
You missed the law about the punk kids leaning the seat so far back they can't see over the dash and playing the music so loud they wouldn't hear a siren right next to them.

I wonder what percentage of those who make their living in a car are pro phone vs. those who don't spend most of the day behind the wheel.

The people in government and all those people that are bent on controlling what other do never listened to their mothers when she said, "Mind your own business. Stop worrying about what other people are doing and just worry about what you are doing."

Thanks Mark, At least those in the Motherland have the capacity for abstract thought. Why not in the Colonies? Speech Stops Thought. You can teach people to do anything, but you can't make 'em think. We have to have laws to govern those who are too stupid to govern themselves. University of Utah Study Think You're Safe? Get Off The Phone or Get Off The Road!!!!! edit: Another link from AAA The studies are endless - and seem to reach the same conclusion.

A little snip from one-- _________________________ The University of Utah psychologists conducted the alcohol study because a 1997 study by other researchers evaluated the cell phone records of 699 people involved in motor vehicle accidents and found one-fourth of them had used their phone in the 10 minutes before their accident – a four-fold increase in accidents compared with undistracted motorists. _____________________________ I bet 1/4th of them drove past a tall tree too. Get the chainsaws. Had used it within 10 minutes! Fabulous research there. Were they on the phone when they crashed? Was the proximate cause of the crash their fault? Classic examples of make a conclusion then do the study to fit it. If one was rear ended at the stop sign I bet that pesky cell phone was the cause of that one. 72.5% of all accidents occur where the vehicle owner has the car radio on. Well, where is that law? Where is that research?

Ed, It is true we have quite a bit of driving training which helps and I agree about the average driver including my kids. My son uses a bluetooth device in the car and neither of us use anything on our bikes. I am currently riding my TBA to work because I can't drive the work car on light duty. Therefore, I dont have to worry about the cell phone. Eighteen degrees in the morning is a bit chilly though.

Wow. Double in the same thread. At least the percentage went up drastically...

One thing that does make me annoyed and puzzled is the £100K Mercedes in front of me failing to pull over when I am sat behind them with blue lights flashing and sirens wailing.
It just beggars belief when you finally get past them and they are holding a mobile phone to their ears because they are either too tight or too stupid to spend another £40 - 50 on a hands free kit for the car.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"
