Most folks seem to have better results by leaving the snorkles in after all. They help avoid surging in crosswinds. You can always just cut the bottom off the snorkle so it doesn't go all the way down into the filter to avoid this surging as well.
And usually just a 1/2 turn out on the pilot screws may be all you need for this mod.
