It's not the locking that's an issue so much as just having a place to hang it. Yes you can strap it to the rack if you have one but it would be more convenient to have a ready-made spot. It's easy to drop a hemet strapping it on your tank or whatever. A $20 lock can save someone a $50-100 visor scratch
