I 've been looking at options to help my butt on the upcoming 1200 mile ride to Talladega Superspeedway. Thanks to all who've replied (Pat, jj and others) to my post about gel pads. Pat, I took your advice about the hot/cold issues with the gel, since I ride year round. And jj, thanks for the offer to try your gel pad. Today, I tried an inflatable Airhawk seat cushion and it is great. You just blow it up to the desired degree of softness (think Sleep Number Bed) and insert it into a bag that attaches with straps that route under the seat. The dealer has to order a larger size for me to try, but I think the Airhawk ($$$) is the one. Any input will be appreciated. I asked if many people removed and reinstalled the Airhawk and the dealer replied, "What, you mean you want to ever have less comfort?".

I only ever used my airhawk on long trips. I didn't needed it for commuting.

I ride all the time with an Airhawk and the stock strap setup. They're a little weird to get used to for the first 100 miles, but eliminate numb butt pretty well. I would go numb after only 20 miles on the stock touring seat, but so far have run a maximum 150 contiguous miles on the Airhawk with no numbing. I'm now running on 7 plus gallons of fuel capacity with a Tour Tank, and looking forward to 300 mile runs with no stops on the Airhawk.
Time and my old crunchy bones will tell the tale ...

I should add that I haven't used the airhawk at all this year. I sent my corbin back for re-working last winter and it's plenty comfortable now.

Does that mean you are looking to sell it? I would send my Corbin back as well, but I am looking at $200-$300 in shipping charges!
Only other option would be to see if a seat shop over here could do something with it, as I want to keep the backrest.

Nobby, there is seat place in Coventry, that my sister used to have her Monster seat sorted out. Supposed to be very good, will look it up.

Cheers Paul, have added it to my favourites list. When I recover from having the 12k mile service done ("about" £380!! ) I will get in contact with them.

I haven't decided yet. I kinda want to hang onto it in case I get another bike someday (and can't get or don't want to spend the money on a Corbin).

It's a bugger....I'm still sticking the overtime in at work to get over that one... And I paid about £380...and had an airbox fitted on top of that.
Expensive things this "hobby" ain't it?

Thanks Jeff. It did not register in my over worked brain that it was the add on tank. I was only visualizing a larger replacement tank for the original I guess I am in a real need of this 3 week vacation coming up
