Looking at other spec sheets, the 865 is available in 4 "versions": America - 54hp/51ft-lb; Bonneville - 66hp/52ft-lb; Thruxton - 69hp/53ft-lb; Scrambler - 56hp/51ft-lb. Seems a little strange to me...more stuff to get mixed up...

They did it for the torque. The speedy not only has a bit more, but it develops it at a lower RPM. thats where the difference is.....the lower max torque. Now the america has the same engine and therefore same specs as the 05 speedy instead of sharing the same specs with the pre 05 790 speedy.

Now looking at the specs you may see 4800 RPM's as the max torque. However, in 05 it showed 3500 RPM's for max torque. I don't know for why, but it would seem they decided to change the cam profile to add a bit of HP at the sacrifice of the lower torque to get it somewhere in between the old 790 and the 05 speedy. But looking at the HP specs they seem to be the same. So i don't get it. Why would the 05 SM have max at 3500 and the 06 at 4800 if theres no change in HP?

Got this from another web site...

"Not sure of the accuracy but this appeared in an Oz Based Website( http://dinosmc.com/ )back in May :

TRIUMPH TESTS A SUPER BONNEVILLE AMERICA"

Triumph is said to be testing a 1530cc parallel-twin cruiser for the crucial US market, aimed at filling the gap between the 800cc Bonneville America and the 2.3 litre Rocket 3.
The as yet unnamed new bike's engine will be a liquid cooled,DOHC,eight valve parallel=twin, and is understood to use two 101.6mm x 94.3mm cylinders from the Rocket 3 engine, rotated 90 degrees to be mounted across the frame.
The engine will also have a 270-degree crankshaft throw-crucial for the American cruiser customer at which the model will be targeted-as well as a five speed gearbox and shaft final drive.
The beefed up Bonneville wont hit showrooms until 2007,by which time, its rumoured,Triumph will have released a touring version of the Rocket 3 with luggage and a screen.
Also due from Hinckley is a 1050cc revamp of its 955i Daytona sportsbike, using the long stroke engine from the Sprint ST and Speed Triple.
Triumph is finalising its new three cylinder 680cc Daytona sportsbike, and working on a Speed Triple version to replace the Speed Four nakedbike, plus a Bonneville Street Scrambler.
Both the 680 Daytona and Bonneville Street Scrambler are to go on sale in Australia in mid- 2006"

So ,there we have it with the latest news from down under, heres hoping Triumph have the foresight to let the rest of the world share in the 1500cc version and not USA alone.

Cheers for now and keep smiling.

Whopee! Nothing I'd like better than to see a 1500cc 270 degree twin. Shaft drive sounds nice, of course, I wouldn't mind a 6 speed either. A bigger twin that LOOKS like a Triumph would be very hard for me to resist.

Water cooled, shaft drive - isn't that a car?
