I used to think the same thing till i saw the SM. I like both black and chrome engines, but if it's black the black MUST be right. Some bike have black paint that looks cheap. Triumph uses a certain texture that looks good. And as Sal said they're infinatly easier to clean. Iy grew on me real quick after i first saw one in person. That said i also like the america's chrome sides, tho i think it looks a bit out of place or "tacked on" with the rest of the engine black.
