Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Ok guys, here's the scoop for the day:

I have just had a word with the National distributor in Greece for Triumph who tells me the following:

Regarding the larger capacity cruiser - Triumph is only talking about it - nothing yet.
This translates that it is in development but unlikely for 2007 (unless launched mid-season)

The America changes for 2007:
The 865 cc motor.
Cast wheels.
Adjustable hand controls (clutch and brake).
Larger pillion seat.
Polished lower forks.
Changes to the pillion footrest hangers (I didn't quite get the difference).

The Speedmaster changes for 2007:
Different cast wheels.
Polished lower forks.
Changes to the pillion footrest hangers (I didn't quite get the difference).
Blackened cylinder heads (totally black including cooling fins or something???)

This your BA.COM correspondent "Da Bedouin" from the Meditteranean, signing out.

Soren - I had him on the phone - I didn't get to the other models as I was trying to commit the above to memory since I was mobile. I stuck to the rumoured larger capacity cruiser and our models.
He did mention that all standard Bonnevilles (along with the America) are getting the 865cc engine.
I can always call him tomorrow though ...

Does this mean we can stop talking about it for a while?

Polished legs=great, no shiny edges on fins=bad, very bad. Why the F would they do that?! I would imagine the majority of owners would prefer shiny. If not i'd surely seen or heard of someone painting the fin edges black by now. Thats just stupid. They probably figure since the America is getting wheels and the 865 the need to make the engine even more different looking to justify having 2 models that look too similar.

Yeah, wonder why they're giving the America cast wheels instead of the spokes? That's kinda the retro appeal for that bike, they should worry more about using spoked rims that don't get broken spokes!

I think that makes it a Speedmaster with a B1TcH seat.

Sounds like the ideal America, except for a choice of front wheels being spoked or cast. Also, need replacement of stock fork springs with Progressive springs.

Sounds like some positive changes. The 865cc enigine is a step in the right direction. I'm still at a loss why these bikes don't come standard with a belt drive. Triumph's understanding of the the American market seems to be myopic at best. I've ask some of these questions in the past and they usually answer with the standard "We're selling all the bikes we make so why change" There is something to be said for that but I think long term people we'll get frustrated and won't comeback. I would have to think long and hard about buying another TBA. Don't get me wrong, I love my bike but I'd like a bike I can ride without maintaining a chain and messing with the carbs. Personnelly I'd love to see the next generation America with fuel injection and belt drive.

I love my TA as well and probably won't give it up unless a larger cruiser comes out (1200-1500cc) that has belt drive and EFI. Of course, it would have to still look like a Triumph. The Rocket is not my cup of tea, so to speak.

Geez Bedouin!!!

When exactly did this quest for that larger Triumph cruiser we've all been waiting for take on these "Shakespearean proportions", huh?!

Well, I suppose if anyone can rally the troops(and maybe have Mr.Bloor listen), it's you, amigo!

As for myself, give me these same air/oil-cooled bikes with at least a litre-sized engine(and maybe EFI), or give me.....nothing.

Cheers,
Dwight

RIP:
Classic motorcycle Bonneville America with silver engine, spoked wheels. Old school is dead. Also it appears there is little difference between new TBA and SM. I just dont get it.

Speedmaster rims look kinda cool. If the pic is accurate, they look like they're blacked out!

Hmmm........don't like the wheels, don't like the colors, don't like the sprocket cover, don't like the fact that i may not buy one when they get EFI because of the wheels mainly. Not sure on those peg hangers.....might be good but hard to tell in that small pic.

On a brighter tho odd note, the america and speedy pipes have been swapped ! America=bullet end, speedy=slash cuts.Glad, but WTF?

On the other hand i think the new america looks better than the old one by the way, tho probably not enough to buy one. Don't care for it's wheels either. They coulda polished the old speedy front wheel and heaven would be mine.

I will keep my America. I like the classic look. I think the two bikes will be too similar now. Oh well. I do, however, like the rear peg holders better. But again, they look more like an old Bonneville, and I like retro. I will keep my T 100 sprocket cover over the one on the new America.

Just my opinion but these are minor upgrades made to sell to 2002 and up owners ready for a new bike.
I really believe a new bigger cruiser will come with next years EFI.
Probably one of the two, Speedy or America will be dropped depending on sales.
JMHO.
PS: Harley is coming with a water cooled 1200 Sporty in '07.
No kidding !

Looks like the "George Foreman" is finally gone. I like the chrome one on the new Americas. As for the wheels, well I'd have to see the finish before I make up my mind. The rear pegs look like they are too far back for a passenger. And it looks like they've stopped differentiating between the tank patterns between the two. All in all alot of differences between the two have been eliminated and that makes me think one thing. They don't want to be left over with any inventory that can't go on either model.

My guess? When the 2008 range comes out the Speedmaster will stay the same but the current version of the America will be discontinued. That is what the name will be of the new cruiser with the larger engine size.

Well, it does look like the guys at the big T are listening.....

How many of us have polished/ chromed our front ends? Altered our sprocket covers or peg hangers?

The new america wheels look a little harley-esque. How much more classic can you get?

Hmmm.... I like the new wheels on the Speedy and it comes in three different colors of red/black and all black. I just might take a bite at the new Speedy, but I'll have to see it in person before I can say for sure.

I don't like the black engine or the peg hangers. I'm glad I have an 04 America. I might take the new sprocket cover and replace my T100 cover but I'm not sure yet.

I like the BA wheels better than the SM wheels in the pictures. I think the colors suck a tad. The Pacific Blue and N.E. White on the R-III Classic is a concept that should have been included on the BA - That is America, for cryin' out loud - From Coast to Coast

They've swapped the pipes over too in the pics on the Swiss site... slash cuts on the SM and the tapers on the America.....why??

I must say that if I was look at buying a bike next year, it would not be a new America... it looks bleedin' ugly!

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Hmmm... Everyone knows I hate to start rumors , But maybe the approach is to 'ugly down' the BA /SM line prior to introducing that 1475cc cruiser that has been keep secret for so long - My source says the tarp comes off her in November. Includes wide colour range, Spoke and cast wheel options, belt drive, Water cooled (with hidden radiator where the air box would normally be), F.I., tour version(s), and a complement of accessories that would choke a hog rider. Wait and see.

The pipe switch makes sense, the SM is more sporty, it made no sense that they had the slashes and not the SM, but really, whats it matter, who really keeps stock pipes. I really like the new front wheel on the America, I wonder if it would be able to take the dual disks and fit on a SM? I dont like the new SM wheels, but perhaps they look better in person ( I doubt it ). The polished lowers are a much better detail, now for a better quality chrome piece for the top of the tank. I am actually surprised that at least of our aftermarket guys hasnt made a better replacement for that, being such a visible piece.

It also appears that all parallel twins will be blacked out. More cost management, efficiency.

I don't know if you're serious or tounge in cheek, but god i hope thats true. Til i know whether that bike is real or a rumor i can't rest easy with my bike because i don't know if i'll be keeping it for a long time or selling it. This is driving me nuts ! by the way, if they unwrap it in november does that mean a release date would be between the models years? in other words, would it be released soon after that and call an 07 or would it be 08 till it's released?
