"what are the possible things i could have messed up been going 103 in 4th gear"
nothing. the rev limiter kicks in at 99 mph (corrected/real speed) in 4th. i do it often.

Our motors are built tough, probably overbuilt, especially the bottom end. You don't have to worry about revving the snot out of it once it's broken in. In fact, everybody should crank it up above 5,000 rpms once in awhile just to see how it feels.

Papa Dean used to freak out when people would "reve the snot out of it" because he believed the cast pistons are the weak point. But I have hit redline quite a few times. I think they are overbuilt, but I do like the idea of forged pistons! Some day....

I agree with everyone above. Sometimes I just flat out forget I am in 4th. Been to 75 or 80 in 4th never 103 though. Way to go Stallion!

There are those times the headwind just won't let you hit 100 in 5th, you need the extra oomph you get in 4th
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Silly... the engine doesnt' care what gear it's in... it only goes as fast as it can anyway! Just to make you feel better.... got a few wrinkled parts on my Suzuki Bandit 1200 replaced. (My KID wrinkled it! <G>... Couldnt' figure out whre one party was that my friend took off... had him come over, installed the little spring he had forgotten was in his pocket..(sheese...men!) .. and told him to take it for a test ride.. Ok, he's used to his big Suzuki Cavalcade, big as a Goldwing. He come back, says it runs pretty good, had it up to about 120. Later that evening he calls my brother... seems that good old Rob didnt' realize how fast my little bike could go... says it was clipping along rather nicely when he looked at the speedo... He was doing 140 ...in 4th gear!.... So he snicks it into 5th and said it kinda ran outta juice about 167....<BG> Still runs really good, so no damage... <G> Now, FIRST gear at 103 would be kinda pushing it! <LOL> Mary

BTW, I believe the Thruxton has the rev limiter set even higher, so don't worry about it. The only way to fatally overrev it is to bang too many downshifts at once and pop the clutch.

I must not be pushing mine as hard as yall. I've tried and been unable to get mine to 100 in 5th (granted I may be getting chicken and letting off before it has time to build up to it).

The 19 will stretch out the range of the lower gears, but also theoretically reduce the power in each gear, so I doubt it will actually help the top speed in 5th, might even hurt it, unless you have a REALLY stiff tail wind.

Yeap, that's the difference in altering what final speed the bike is Mathematically capable of, due to gearing and tire height and engine RPM, vice what it can do in real life.

Lowers rpm at interstate cruising speeds, which gives you better gas mileage. I've been on the New Jersey Turnpike, you could use the power.

'Stalion, I have the 19 tooth sprocket and have a higher top speed than when I had the 16 tooth and you don't feel like you're missing that sixth gear. You may have to down shift a little more frquently, that's all......Angelis
