We our nation television/radio network the CBC is doing a survey of what Canadians think are the greatest Canadian inventions. They've selected 50 of them and we get to vote. Problem is I can't decide which is the best. Sure we've got things like the electron microscope, "bomb" cancer treatment, and the blackberry but when put up against things like the retractable beer carton handle, poutine, and the wonder bra....well, it's just hard to decide. Can you guys give me some help here what do you think? Here's the full list.

Curling The only game I know of where the official rules state that the winning team MUST buy drinks for the losing team, and the losing team is required to buy drinks for the winners.

Listing the telephone and Alexander Graham Bell as Canadian is a real stretch: "Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He moved to Ontario, and then to the United States"http://www.fi.edu/franklin/inventor/bell.html"On March 10, 1876, in Boston, Massachusetts, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. Thomas Watson fashioned the device itself; a crude thing made of a wooden stand, a funnel, a cup of acid, and some copper wire"http://www.privateline.com/TelephoneHistory/History1.htm

I think the invention of the telephone an Alexander Graham Bell is a little misleading. He was born in Scotland and emigrate to Canada after graduating from college at the University of Edinburgh. Bell meets Thomas Watson, a young electrician who would become his assistant, at Charles Williams's electrician shop in Boston. Filed the patent in the US.

I'm thinking only a Canadian might credit one of their own with the "invention" of the radio as well. See: History of Radio. I did look into other online sources and this timeline seems to be confirmed in the overall history. I think there may need to be some research done on these "Canadian inventions". Eh? I like beaver(s)!

Thermal linings? Snowmobiles? Whiteout?....Oh sorry! I was thinkin' of a certain weather condition, NOT that liquid paper stuff. BUT come to think of it, I have heard somewhere that one of mothers of one of "Monkees"(I THINK it was Mike Nesmith), invented THAT! Cheers, Dwight (...and IF she WAS Canadian...so I guess THAT would count then, HUH?!)

IMO, it's gotta be a toss-up between the caulking gun and instant mashed potatoes.
Hey! Use 'em together for interesting variations at meal times, eh?!!
